Job Summary
Fusion Optix is seeking a hands-on and experienced Engineering Manager to lead the technical and operational development of our growing Fixtures Division, supporting in-house brands (including Xico Lighting and ProLume) and OEM clients. Based in Woburn, MA, this role will oversee and manage a team of manufacturing, quality, and design engineers, ensuring that shop drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, and other key deliverables are accurate, efficient, and production-ready. The successful candidate will be a key bridge between design, production, and quality teams, driving continuous improvement in processes and product delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management:
- Manage and lead a team of design, manufacturing, and quality engineers responsible for the successful design, production, and assembly of lighting fixtures.
- Foster a collaborative environment, mentoring team members, and driving professional growth while maintaining productivity and engineering excellence.
Technical Documentation
- Oversee the preparation of detailed shop drawings, wiring diagrams, 3D models, and related schematics to support manufacturing, product assembly, and quality control.
- Ensure all documentation, including BOMs, assembly instructions, testing procedures, and installation manuals, is complete, accurate, and up to date.
Product Development & Customization
- Collaborate with the design and product management teams to turn product concepts into production-ready engineering documentation.
- Manage the customization of products for OEM clients, ensuring that design integrity and production requirements are balanced effectively.
Manufacturing & Quality Support
- Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to address production issues, improve process efficiency, and resolve technical challenges.
- Lead the creation and implementation of quality assurance processes to maintain consistent product quality and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation for product defects and non-conformities.
Process Improvement
- Continuously evaluate and improve engineering, manufacturing, and quality processes, including ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) and version control.
- Optimize designs to enhance manufacturability, reduce production costs, and improve lead times.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline production workflows and enhance product performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with teams across design, production, procurement, and sales to ensure technical specifications meet project and market requirements.
- Assist with vendor selection by providing technical input on materials, components, and suppliers critical to product success.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role, preferably in the lighting, fixtures, or related manufacturing sectors.
- Experience managing design, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
- Proficiency in developing shop drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions.
- Expertise in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and ERP systems for BOM and production planning.
- Strong knowledge of lighting technologies, sheet metal, optics, wiring, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with quality management systems (QMS), including root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and statistical process control (SPC).
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OEM product development and custom engineering for diverse applications.
- Familiarity with photonic or optical systems and LED-based technologies.
- Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards (UL, CE, etc.) for lighting products.
