We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead in the Civil Infrastructure sector.


The Role

Samsung C&T (SCT) is recruiting an Engineering Manager to support our team that is targeting Australia’s infrastructure pipeline. Planning for the future, we’re looking for experienced team members to join our team in the Australian Civil Infrastructure business.


Samsung C&T’s strong pipeline of projects across the Transport, Water Infrastructure and Hydro sectors provide the candidate with a unique opportunity to influence direction and provide strategic leadership to our Civil Infrastructure business.


The Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing technical insight and innovations to the development of projects. The role will be responsible to drive value engineering outcomes whilst providing support to the Pre-Contracts team, assisting in securing new opportunities for the Australian Civil Infrastructure BU by managing multi-discipline teams and providing leadership. The Engineering Manager will coordinate the effective implementation of SCT’s engineering framework from early pre-contracts phases through to project execution. The client facing role requires regular engagement with clients and external stakeholders to ensure collaborative outcomes are achieved.


The successful candidate will provide technical direction, operational leadership and governance to ensure alignment with SCT’s engineering framework.


About You

The ideal candidate has demonstrated track record on large scale, city-shaping sustainable mobility projects and transport infrastructure. The Engineering Manager will participate in all phases of the project lifecycle from initial precontracts activities including partnering, conceptual design, FEED, detailed design and project execution. The successful candidate will provide guidance and insights to technical feasibility studies, value engineering alternatives, risk profiling and strategic planning for multiple projects. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about delivering transformative infrastructure projects, with a willingness to follow a project from the tender phase to delivery.


As a member of the senior leadership group the Engineering Manager is responsible for establishing a working environment that promotes the strengths of our diverse, multi-cultural team and fosters a learning culture centered on the customer experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance as required to ensure integration of technical knowledge across the project team, relevant contracts personnel and delivery partners such to enable a clear understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Challenges and supports staff to grow and develop their skills and capability based on their individual strengths, future career aspirations and business needs.
  • Models the organisation's values, and exercise judgment, initiative, professionalism.
  • Proactively builds and maintain relationships with key in/external stakeholders including Australian office, relevant business units in head office, clients, delivery partners, consultancy etc.
  • Communicates complex information and concepts in a clear, compelling manner to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develops collaborative solutions and provides advice with an understanding of the key issues and drivers.
  • Risk assessment and establishes strategies to mitigation time / cost impacts.
  • Oversees design reviews and develops technical solutions to build upon reference designs and create a competitive edge.
  • Strategically reviews the forward pipeline of works and active pursuits to forecast future resourcing demands, identify potential talent gaps whilst playing an active role in recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Manages and controls the effective implementation of commercial frameworks and processes, including head contract and subcontract administration (change management), commercial risk analysis, and reporting.
  • Leads the identification and quantification of head contract scope changes and all subsequent technical presentations with the client.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and all relevant policies and processes.
  • Championing health, safety, environmental, and community responsibilities within the project team.
  • Leading the project team by fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Selection Criteria

  • Extensive experience as an Engineering Manager.
  • Ability to lead, inspire and motivate diverse teams.
  • Adept at identifying key stakeholders and engage their support.
  • Advanced level of influencing, interpersonal and negotiation skills that establish productive relationships and partnerships.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to commit to and work within Samsung C&T Australia values.
