Summary

We are partnered with a leading, global organization who is looking for an Engineering Leader to join their team. This leadership role will oversee a team of approximately 20 engineers; driving innovation and operational excellence across a portfolio of paper-based products. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for executing a multi-year strategic plan focused on cost optimization, technology advancement, and engineering team development. Reporting to the executive leadership team, this position plays a critical role in shaping the future of the organization's manufacturing capabilities.

This role is newly created and part of a broader organizational transformation. This role will be responsible for driving the 3-5 strategic plan as well as the leadership team is investing in assets, people and overall efficiencies. This role will be integral to creating solutions, leading large scale programs and teams as well as interacting with all levels of leadership.


Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering accountability and engagement.
  • Build succession plans and maintain a structure that aligns with evolving business needs.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, motivated work environment.

Strategic and Operational Planning

  • Own and execute long-term engineering strategies in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Lead efforts to optimize the manufacturing footprint and increase return on investment.
  • Address complex technical issues and drive resolution in collaboration with plant teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with supply chain, R&D, operations, and commercial teams to ensure engineering initiatives support broader business goals.
  • Build effective relationships with equipment vendors and service providers.

Capital Planning and Cost Optimization

  • Develop and manage capital and operational budgets.
  • Implement value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.

Technology and Data Utilization

  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve process capabilities.
  • Standardize engineering practices and use data analytics to drive performance insights and decisions.

Safety and Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety by implementing proactive processes and risk mitigation tools.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and safety regulations across engineering operations

Qualifications:
Leadership and Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and build engineering talent.
  • Strong influence and communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Effective at navigating matrix organizations and fostering cross-functional alignment.

Strategic and Analytical Thinking

  • Ability to translate strategic goals into actionable engineering plans.
  • Experience solving complex problems with limited information and changing variables.

Technical and Business Expertise

  • Deep understanding of paper manufacturing processes including converting technologies such as roll-fed, blank-fed, stock preparation, and molded fiber.
  • Proven experience with the design and installation of manufacturing systems and production lines.
  • Strong financial and business acumen in capital planning, budgeting, and operational performance.
  • Active engagement with relevant industry organizations and technical consortiums.

Background Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, paper science, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in engineering or technical operations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% domestically and internationally.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. passport.
