Summary

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited is currently seeking a motivated and ambitious Engineer to join our Water & Wastewater Vertical Infrastructure team. As a part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects involving the assessment, planning, study, design, approval, and construction administration of municipal and some private sector water and wastewater infrastructure.

This position offers the flexibility to be based out of one of several office locations, including Guelph, Collingwood or Hamilton. Occasional travel to other offices is a requirement.

Role Specifics

Reporting to Senior Water and Wastewater Engineers, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in assessment, planning, study, design, approval, and construction administration of water supply, treatment, pumping, storage, distribution projects, and wastewater collection, pumping, treatment, and disposal.
  • Supporting senior engineers and project managers in producing preliminary and detailed design drawings, preparing related reports, coordinating approvals, developing construction cost estimates, and liaising with clients, sub-consultants, and contractors.
  • Providing support to construction inspectors and contract administrators in the field and office to gain familiarity with construction techniques and challenges.
  • Working under the guidance of project managers and management staff across the company to develop design skills and ensure design quality standards are met.
  • Collaborating with and contributing to multi-office project teams to ensure project delivery successfully meets the needs of clients.
  • Providing engineering support to multidiscipline project teams as needed.
  • Preparing proposals, project reports, design documents, permit applications, environmental assessment, and environmental screening reports.
  • Participating in planning and feasibility studies and conducting condition assessments of water and wastewater facilities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • An engineering degree in a related discipline.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • Knowledge of municipal and provincial approval processes, as well as relevant agency and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices are an asset.
  • Strong written and oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BIM, Revit, Civil 3D, and MicroStation is an asset.
  • Familiarity with WaterCad, InfoWater, and SewerCAD modeling is an asset.

While experience with linear/vertical municipal infrastructure design, contract administration, and client relationships is an asset, it's not a requirement.
