Engineer - Project

The Engineer - Plant position will be responsible for overseeing engineering projects starting from project origination, carrying through the testing phase and maintaining them in production phase. Primarily accountable for planning, coordinating and directing a new project or process ensuring that organization standards, procedures and work processes are followed.

Performance Expectations

• Specify/Select special tools and fixtures where required.
• Ability to determine which measuring tools and methods to use.
• Communication with customer (when required) and suppliers.
• Customer focus teams, APQP activities and coordinate the involvement of other department personnel.
• Estimate cycle times and cost for each operation in the process.
• Set production targets and goals.
• Assist in the preparation of quotations.
• Establish which materials and equipment to use for projects and decide the appropriate codes and standards to apply.
• Ensure that the process is capable of producing parts to specifications.
• Investigate and find solutions for specific processing problems for assigned projects and parts.
• Maintain ongoing process control through quality troubleshooting and process improvements.
• Modify the process and update all relevant documentation when required.
• Maintain control of customer drawings and revisions.
• Keep records, transmit information to other departments.
• Preparation of project SRED.
• Maintain and improve line layouts.
• Track data for production line performance and OEE.
  
  

Credentials

• Post-Secondary Degree of Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering discipline.
• Minimum of three years machine shop experience, preferably in a high volume environment.
• Understanding of CNC machining (turning, drilling, milling, hobbing, grinding), Spline rolling, Heat Treatment, GDT and Blueprint reading.
• Knowledge of SPC methods, process and machine capability requirements, and lot control techniques.
• Knowledge of LPS and LPS tools (i.e. value stream mapping), TS 16949 and related procedures.
• Previous experience with the use of statistical analysis software and computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining (i.e. AutoCAD and SolidWorks).
• Training in APQP, SPC, FMEA, MSA, PPAP preferred.
