About The Role
The System Capability team is responsible for monitoring and improving the capability of the NEM, to ensure secure and reliable operation, and to facilitate efficient market outcomes for the long-term benefits of consumers. AEMO actively promotes flexible working arrangements within our team. Within the Operational Analysis and Engineering team, you will support key engineering functions including system strength and inertia assessments, design of emergency frequency control schemes, assessment of existing and future system restart plans, performing model validations and conducting other power system studies as needed to ensure power system security in operational timeframes with changing generation mix.
This role can be based at any of our office locations across multiples states
What You Will Be Doing
- Perform power system modelling and studies including wide-area simulations using PSS/E and PSCAD/EMTDC to support the delivery of key engineering activities in Operational Analysis and Engineering.
- Support the investigation of power system oscillations, e.g., oscillation monitoring using existing phasor measurement units and investigation of oscillations with EMT modelling.
- Develop high quality technical reports documenting the outcome of studies including technical recommendations.
- Assist workstream lead and Manager to address technical feedback received and aid in completion of project deliverables.
- Interface with stakeholders such as other AEMO departments, relevant Network Service Providers for technical discussions.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Demonstrated experience in conducting power systems and/or power electronics modelling and simulations.
- Proficient in using leading-edge power system tools, especially PSCAD/EMTDC and PSS/E for wide-area simulations.
- Good understanding of power system dynamics and stability concepts with applications to power system operations.
- Knowledge and experience of national electricity rules and principles of maintaining power system security.
- Excellent report writing capability to document outcomes of detailed simulations and develop technical recommendations.
- Ability to communicate technical findings to stakeholders and presention of outcomes.
- Ability to think logically, analyse and solve issues.
- Ability to manage concurrent projects, timelines and priorities.
