Engineer I - Network Services (Solutions Engineer)
Position Summary
GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Position Description
Our Engineer I in Developer Solutions Engineering will engineer solutions and empower the developer community with experiences, tools, and automated processes that reduce friction and improve developer satisfaction, flow, and cycle-times. This role will be heavily centered around engineer solutions with the goal to improve developer flow, reduce cycle times, and provide fast feedback loops. An important outcome of developer productivity engineering is to give developers hours back in the week in the developer experience so they can focus on accelerating solution delivery. The ideal candidate can produce high quality code and leverage their technical skills to contribute to significant business initiatives.
Position Responsibilities
As an Engineer I, you will:
* Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems
* Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle
* Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution
* Participate in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization
* Utilize programming languages like GO, Java, Typescript, React, HTML, Python, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
* Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
Qualifications
* Experience with at least one modern language such as GO, Java, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design
* Basic understanding of micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs
* Basic understanding of micro frontends
* Basic understanding of complex YAML pipeline/workflow code in GitHub
* Basic understanding of complex docker files or other containerization technologies such as Podman, Kaniko, containerd, etc.
* Basic understanding of writing highly complex YAML code for containers orchestration on different compute platforms
* Advanced understanding of DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture and Azure DevOps Operational Framework
* Basic understanding of PowerShell scripting
* Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts
* Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Hands-on experience with user requirements, web applications, coding reviews and code quality
* Strong coding skills, with the ability to produce high quality code that is reusable and repeatable without being overly complex
* Well-rounded experiences outside of the classroom with different technologies, resulting in projects that demonstrate strong engineering skills and abilities
Experience
* Professional software development experience or internship experience
Education
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary
$60,000.00 - $150,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
