Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Controls Design Engineer to lead the design and integration of industrial control systems for manufacturing and automation equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), switchgear, and AutoCAD Electrical, and will play a key role in electrical schematic development, panel layout design, and system documentation.


Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop electrical control systems using AutoCAD Electrical, including schematic drawings, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams for custom automation machinery and systems.

Select, size, and integrate VFDs (ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) to meet specific application requirements for motor speed control, energy savings, and process optimization.

Specify and integrate switchgear components including circuit breakers, contactors, relays, and disconnects in accordance with UL508A and NEC standards.

Create detailed Bill of Materials (BOM), cable schedules, and I/O lists for procurement and manufacturing.

Collaborate with mechanical, software, and electrical teams to ensure seamless system integration and troubleshooting during panel build and commissioning.

Review and validate panel fabrication, wire routing, and enclosure layout to meet functional, safety, and space constraints.

Develop and maintain control system documentation including functional design specifications (FDS), testing procedures, and user manuals.

Support onsite commissioning, including VFD programming, motor tuning, and validation of control sequences.

Provide technical support for installation teams and troubleshoot electrical and controls issues during system startup.


Preferred Skills and Experience:

Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for creating detailed control system drawings.

In-depth knowledge of VFD setup and integration for industrial motor applications.

Experience working with switchgear components and low-voltage power distribution.

Familiarity with NFPA 79, UL508A, NEC, and relevant electrical standards.

Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Experience with PLC and HMI hardware/software integration is a plus.
