What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a Technician to support engineering development for cell manufacturing automation equipment, including development, installation, commissioning, and retrofitting. The role involves working closely with engineering teams (mechanical, software, process, and electrical) to address challenging automation equipment issues. Hands-on experience with vision systems is a plus. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interest in computer/PLC and industrial automation/machinery systems, especially with distributed controllers using a fieldbus technology, knowledge of EtherCat, profinet is preferred. The candidate should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and be familiar with electrical instruments such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, as well as mechanical tools to assist in diagnosing and repairing equipment.

Tesla's projects are highly dynamic, as the company continuously adjusts priorities to improve productivity and efficiency. The candidate must be able to handle multitasking in a fast-paced environment with aggressive schedules and timelines. The automation equipment will be installed, commissioned, and operated at Tesla facilities located in Austin, TX.

What You'll Do

  • Strong electrical control troubleshooting skills and ability to read electrical schematics proficiently
  • Familiar with High Voltage – 480V Power Distribution Panels, Digital/Analog I/O and safety interlock systems
  • Familiar with VFD and Servo Drive systems
  • Beckhoff and Siemens PLC experience, with the ability to make PLC code changes based on Engineer instructions
  • Capable of editing schematics using ePlan P8 Electrical CAD
  • Install line-side equipment, including cameras and computer hardware Collaborate with relevant teams to determine optimal locations for hardware installation. Experience with wiring, networking within industrial/manufacturing environments
  • Capable of performing basic mechanical assembly tasks, such as bolting brackets, covers, and using basic hand tools


  • What You'll Bring

  • 5 years' of experience working in an industrial automation or technical organization
  • Solid computer skills including specific experience with file systems and basic understanding of computer networks
  • Good understanding of electrical control circuit and safety
  • Experience with wiring/ equipment
  • Experience in manufacturing area
  • Solid written communication skills and willingness to document
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
