Position Summary

The Electrical Controls and Project Engineer is responsible for design, configuration, integration, and implementation of process control solutions for our wood products manufacturing facilities. In addition, this person will assist with capital projects, facility maintenance and shutdown activities to ensure plant safety and minimal impact to production. This position must be based within two hours of our west coast locations, with travel to other Collins facilities weekly and response to callouts as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

Design, develop, install, execute, and oversee electrical or mechanical control systems, equipment, and machinery.

Examine facility processes to develop and implement changes and new designs that improve and increase efficiency/productivity. Seamlessly combine newer technologies and extensions of current architectures.

Provide technical support of Programmable Logical Controller based hardware and software while utilizing electronic and mechanical theories and principles to troubleshoot and solve problems.

Provide process engineering support to include

developing a broad familiarity of the process and unit operations, including all process control systems configuration;

process troubleshooting, optimization, and yield improvement for various projects;

providing backup support to other process control and electrical supervisor personnel; and

configuring and supporting process control system interfaces to other computer systems.

Provide ongoing informal and formal training for electrical crew to ensure development of good operating and maintenance practices.

Work closely with electrical supervisors to maintain all documentation related to process control system configuration including SOP’s.

Assist with planning and budgeting for facility shutdown activities.

Coach the maintenance teams to think strategically about downtime prevention and long-term resolution of issues.

Maintain a culture of efficiency and the ability to react quickly to downtime events.

Work with operational team to support and/or lead continuous improvement of assets and asset performance.

Plan and coordinate technical design and engineering implementation of project work.

Coordinate and communicate activities with necessary departments for maintenance and repair work.

Provide project engineering to support maintenance and operations, capital project implementation and other continuous improvement projects to include

creating an electrical and process control plan,

supporting with installations,

providing electrical budgets, and

collaborating with in-house and outside contractor personnel as needed.

Ensure compliance with all standards and programs (safety, environmental, quality, maintenance, and manufacturing policies and procedures) within area of responsibility.

Perform Additional Duties As Required By Supervisor.

On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Required Skills And Abilities

Thorough knowledge of facility equipment and processes and the ability to troubleshoot potential issues.

Ability to do full controls integration, from electrical/instrumentation design to PLC and HMI.

Proficient using personal computers and associated software (MS Suite, Project, Access, SQL, CMMS, AutoCAD).

Versed in discrete and analog control scheme development and implementation.

Full understanding of pressure, flow, level, temperature measurements and calibration techniques.

Self-motivated, energetic, and proactive with the ability to multi-task in an organized manner.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to lead or work as part of a team.

Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems.

High level of personal integrity and ethical and professional standards.

Excellent time-management and organizational skills.

Ability to frequently travel to other Collins’ facilities in Klamath Falls, OR; Lakeview, OR; Chester, CA; and Kane, PA.

Ability to work weekends and holidays and respond to callouts as needed.

Education and Experience

Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or similar relevant field required.

Oregon electrical license required (Plant Manufacturing Journey or General Journey License).

Oregon electrical supervisors license preferred.

A minimum of three years of experience in a similar position required.

Previous Supervisory Or Lead Experience Preferred.

Experience with continuous manufacturing processes.

Hands-on experience with steam, hydraulic, and pneumatics systems.

Working experience with Allen-Bradley & Simatic/TI505 PLC’s, Wonderware HMI, FactoryTalk or equivalent.

Experienced in Ethernet network communication design and implementation, including fiber and 10/100/1000BaseTX.
