Description of Duties:
The Georgia Department of Education - Teaching and Learning is searching for a dynamic Director of Numeracy. Under limited supervision, the successful candidate in this position will provide statewide leadership and coordination for K-12 Numeracy and Mathematics initiatives, with responsibilities including but not limited to:
Curriculum Development and Implementation:
* Lead and support a comprehensive, standards-based mathematics curriculum across all grade levels
* Provide guidance and tools to assist districts in implementing Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards
* Promote coherence across the K-12 mathematics continuum, emphasizing conceptual understanding and numeracy development
Professional Development:
* Design and deliver professional learning for educators on effective mathematics instruction, evidence-based practices, formative assessment, and data informed decision-making
* Provide coaching and technical assistance to build capacity at the school and district levels
Data Analysis and Evaluation
* Analyze statewide student performance data to identify trends, areas of need, and instructional opportunities.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of mathematics programs and interventions using multiple data sources and provide recommendations to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes
Leadership and Communications
* Serve as a leader and advocate for mathematics education within the state
* Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, families, and the public
* Collaborate with GaDOE program areas and external partners to improve mathematics outcomes
Other Potential Responsibilities
* Develop and implement policies and procedures related to mathematics education
* Monitor and manage grants and budgets related to mathematics education
* Stay current on research and national trends in numeracy and mathematics education
* Use data to analyze the impact of initiatives and recommend strategic improvements
* Provide technical assistance and build leadership capacity among district curriculum directors and school leaders
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following:
* Master's degree or higher in education, education administration, mathematics and/or a closely related field
* Experience in mathematics education
* Experience as a Curriculum Director or Content Area Director/Manager at the local education agency (LEA) level
* Experience with professional learning at the district and/or state levels
* Experience with grant writing and administration
* Experience presenting information /research to a variety of audiences
* Experience successfully collaborating with a variety of education groups/entities to implement school improvement initiatives/programs
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
* Maintaining knowledge of current research; analyzing and documenting results of initiatives and making recommendations for enhanced delivery of services; using widely accepted direct technical assistance for curriculum directors and school leaders

Bachelor's degree in education, administration, public administration, or a related administrative field in the area of assignment from an accredited college or university, L-5 certification, and seven (7) years of program management experience in an educational setting.
