Employment Category Limited Duration Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 38 hours per week) Education Program Assistant 2 position for the Division of Extension and Engagement's Family and Community Health Program at Oregon State University (OSU). This is a limited duration appointment expected to last approximately 1 year from the appointment begin date. This position will be located in Eugene, Oregon. This Education Program Assistant 2 (EPA2) position serves Lane County and is based at the OSU Division of Extension and Engagement's Extension Lane County office in Eugene, Oregon. This position is with the Extension Family and Community Health (FCH) program and is affiliated with OSU's College of Health. The EPA2 will: * offer programs and classes that promote healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles to individuals and families; * develop programs and collaborative community partnerships independently. Initiate program changes with the input of state and county program coordinators; * work with community partners like schools, food banks and pantries, and other non-profit organizations (this will require driving/travel to various county sites to deliver programming); * provide lead work to volunteers who have various identities, cultural backgrounds, and communication styles and expectations; and * be part of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed) Program team, supervised by the County FCH/SNAP-Ed managing faculty member. This EPA2 assists the program team with designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations. The division has built the capacity and expectation for employees to use digital communications and technologies in the modern-day workplace. Key Responsibilities 60% Program Delivery and Implementation - Delivers lessons and programs promoting healthy food choices and encouraging physical activity in a variety of community settings, including schools. Nutrition Education Delivery Collaborates with faculty to determine overall program goals and objectives. Works independently to deliver non-credit educational programs using OSU Extension Service/SNAP-Ed approved curricula, materials and information to a broad and diverse audience. Develops written materials and activities to supplement curriculum as requested. Conducts educational presentations at fairs and community events. This will require driving/travel to various county sites to deliver programming, and the ability to transport educational materials. Delivers programming discussed above in either in person or virtual format. Provides training to partners/community with approved non-credit curriculums. Works independently to coordinate the Pantry Food Heroes project, including: * recruits and trains volunteers for Pantry Food Heroes; * coordinates volunteers for food demonstrations at food pantry sites; * provides support for volunteers, responds to questions/concerns regarding Pantry Food Heroes; * manages and maintains pantry demonstration supplies and materials; * coordinates recipe selection and recipe testing, including purchasing food and supplies for testing; * participates in evaluation of program effectiveness. * participates in scheduling and planning of volunteer trainings and planning meetings; and develops monthly Pantry newsletter. Policy, System, Environmental Change Collaborates with SNAP-Ed Managing Faculty Member and community partners to identify areas for policy, system, and environmental change within the community. Works as part of a team to conduct nutrition and physical activity assessments. Collaborates with SNAP-Ed Managing Faculty Member to implement strategies/interventions in the school/community environment that support and encourage healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles, such as implementing the Food Hero campaign strategies. Participates actively in school and/or community committees/coalitions to encourage healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles. Informs supervisors and program designers about community cultural norms and best ways to reach broad and diverse audiences with different backgrounds. Collaborates with Managing Faculty Member to use technology to develop marketing strategies and utilize appropriate print and digital tools to reach intended audience segments. 20% - Nutrition Education - Planning, Preparing, and Evaluating - Works with Nutrition Education team on plans, preparations and evaluation of educational programs and events. Collaborates with faculty to identify and independently engage local partners and stakeholders in community assessment, program design, implementation and evaluation of programs. Independently develops nutrition education programs and initiates changes to programs as needed with input from program team. Collaborates with Managing Faculty Member to create accessible and inclusive environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations. Assists the Managing Faculty Member with enhancing access, inclusion, and relevant best practices and include these activities in the quarterly and annual reports. Promotes nutrition education programming using mixed-media in conjunction with a faculty member, i.e., writing news releases, articles, and public service announcements; giving public presentations in person, radio, or television; and designing and/or maintaining website. Promotes programs and resources in a way that reaches audiences from broad and diverse backgrounds and life experiences and cultural identities. Develops and maintains educational content for displays and exhibits. Engages community partners, volunteers and community members in a culturally responsive manner. Develops collaborative community partnerships independently. Verifies group/class set up and nutrition topics/lessons with site contact and assists in preparation and ordering of instructional supplies needed for classes. Assists with the coordination and training of community and program volunteers. Assists in assembling materials needed for classes and other nutrition education activities. Purchases appropriate materials for educational activities, including ingredients for food preparation and tasting. Participates in evaluation of program effectiveness. Coordinates with Nutrition Education faculty member to select educational resources, activities, and handouts to implement nutrition education materials designed for youth, adults and/or families, following federal and state SNAP-Ed and OSU Extension Service guidelines. Engages actively with faculty, staff and volunteers in the delivery of SNAP-Ed interventions/strategies to SNAP-Ed eligible youth, adults and families. Contributes positively to team projects in SNAP-Ed and the OSU Extension Service in Lane County. Creates opportunities to enhance inclusion and relevant best practices and include these activities in their annual plan of work and summary of accomplishments/achievements in SNAP-Ed reporting system. 10% Nutrition Education Program Records - Submits and maintains all applicable program reports and documentation. Record-keeping: Maintains class, meeting, and assessment records, attendance records, evaluation data, paperwork; verifies for accuracy; submits all required records upon completion of classes, meetings, and assessments for state and federal reporting; submits quarterly success stories -"Stories from the Field;" reports activities and their impacts into the Extension's reporting system, coordinating with their managing faculty member; processes reimbursements for personal vehicle mileage for work driving/travel and supplies purchased; provides other data/statistical information/records as requested. Utilizes database on occasion for SNAP-Ed programming. Compiles and summarizes evaluation data and program statistics as requested by SNAP-Ed Managing Faculty Member. 5% - Program Assistance/Lead work and Coordination - Coordinates the recruitment of volunteers and assists with training of staff, volunteers, and interns when assigned. Provides lead work and assists with training of new staff, volunteers or interns who have various identities, cultural backgrounds, and communication styles and expectations. Assigns, plans and reviews work of student workers and interns as directed by supervisor. Coordinates the recruitment and selection of trainers and volunteers. Schedules staff to provide coverage at educational programs and events. Coordinates educational programs with principals, teachers and community partners. 5% - Meetings & Trainings and Other Duties Attends scheduled Nutrition Education meetings and trainings. Participates in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, meetings and trainings. Attends County Extension staff meetings and participates in regional/state OSU Extension Service activities, as directed. Attends training opportunities to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing and engagement technologies relevant to position duties. Completes the division's civil rights training session(s) and assists the Managing Faculty Member with coordinating the completion by volunteers. Performs other duties as assigned. What We Require Associate's Degree and three years of work experience (paid or volunteer) supporting community programs that serve children, youth or adults OR Bachelor's Degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) one year of which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery or related functions OR Five years experience in a field related to the duties of the position AND a high school diploma or equivalent. AND Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences. Demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications. What We Would Like You to Have * Minimum of two (2) years' experience/education (paid or volunteer) relevant to nutrition education or related health community programs that serve children, youth, and adults. * Experience coordinating volunteers. * Experience with limited income audiences. * Bilingual (English and Spanish). Demonstrated ability to engage Spanish speaking audiences through the utilization of bi-literate and multi-cultural skills. * Ability to provide excellent customer service to a broad and diverse group of people with varying backgrounds, needs, and identities. * Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment. * Demonstrated interest in cooking and health. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Access to a vehicle is necessary as duties will require travel to various sites in Lane County to deliver non-credit programs and transporting curriculum materials.
