Summary

Job Overview:

We are looking for an Education Coordinator to oversee the coordination and development of IBP’s Books as Bridges program, Globetrotters Summer Program, and other educational outreach opportunities throughout the year. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with and teaching children and knowledgeable about other countries and their cultures.

  • Books as Bridges (BAB) pairs classrooms around the globe to partner in a cultural literacy exchange which develops writing skills and fosters global citizens.
  • Globetrotters is a completely free, week-long program designed for students ages 7-13 hosted around in several communities in and around Lexington, KY. Each day, campers will “travel” to a different region of the world, learning about other countries and customs through engaging books and stories, crafts, games, food tastings, and more.


Responsibilities:

  • Books as Bridges Program
  • Identify and build relationships with partner schools and classrooms in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Match domestic and international classrooms by age or grade level.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, timelines, and program details to participating teachers.
  • Organize and execute three annual shipments of student letters and one cultural exchange package between paired classrooms.
  • Develop and deliver interactive cultural lessons—including crafts, food, and engaging dialogue—focused on the partner classroom’s country.
  • Collaborate with teachers to coordinate book drives and service projects that connect students with IBP’s mission and global impact.
  • Work to establish relationships with teachers and schools for longevity of the program.
  • Explore and develop new avenues or partnerships to expand or create offshoots of the Books as Bridges program.
  • Globetrotters
  • Available full time for week of Globetrotters camp sessions (quantity of sessions depends on funding and interest from communities)
  • Identify and enroll 15 students for each one week sesion. Intentionally recruit at Title I or low income schools.
  • Develop daily lesson plans for specific regions and countries which include crafts, food tastings, games, dances, songs, and stories.
  • Order camp materials and supplies while staying within grant budget constraints.
  • Build relationships with libraries, food pantries, community centers, and local businesses in Globetrotter communities for assistance with advertising, meals, supplies, and general support.
  • In charge of students’ safety while they are attending Globetrotters summer camp.
  • Responsible for setting up/cleaning up and staying until all students are picked up at the end of each day.
  • General Support
  • Representing International Book Project at community events.
  • Assisting with large outgoing or incoming shipments of books.
  • Engaging with and checking out bookstore customers.
  • Helping with grant writing, social media, and general office operations.


Position Qualifications:

  • Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Passion for books and promoting literacy.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Self-motivated with ability to see multiple projects through from conception to completion on varying timelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to adapt when things do not go according to timelines.
  • Creativity to present new ideas in an engaging way to students.
  • Appreciation and understanding of cultural sensitivities of partners.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar education required, degree in related subject preferred.
  • International experience and multilingualism desirable.


Status: Part-Time (20 hours per week), $17.00 per hour, mileage reimbursement for job-related travel
