The Editorial Director is responsible for shaping and executing Leadership Now Project’s editorial and content strategy. This role blends strategic planning with hands-on writing and editing to deliver high-impact communications that serves the organization’s mission, engages its membership, and amplifies its message.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Editorial Director is responsible for shaping and executing Leadership Now Project’s editorial and content strategy. This role blends strategic planning with hands-on writing and editing to deliver high-impact communications that serves the organization’s mission, engages its membership, and amplifies its message.
Reporting to the Head of Operations and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Editorial Director will work across internal and external channels on:
- Member communications
- Supporting executive thought leadership
- Ensuring a consistent and effective editorial voice and presence across platforms

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Internal & Member Communications
- Lead content strategy and production for member-facing communications, including newsletters, updates, and event-related materials.
- Partner across teams to identify communication needs and produce materials that support organizational priorities and initiatives.
External Communications & Editorial Strategy
- Support the development and implementation of a cohesive editorial strategy aligned with Leadership Now’s mission, audiences, and programming priorities.
- Write and edit high-impact content such as executive communications, newsletters, public reports, and press releases in collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership.
- Manage the editorial calendar and oversee workflows with freelancers, agencies, and staff to ensure timely, polished execution.
- Work with communications partners to secure media placements and expand the reach of Leadership Now’s thought leadership.
- Identify timely opportunities to engage in public discourse and drive content around them.
Communications Committee Management & Coordination:
- Staff the Board Communications Committee, ensuring productive discussions, strategy, and clear action plans.
- Organize and execute committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda development, meeting facilitation, and follow-ups.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the committee, leadership, and key stakeholders to align messaging and initiatives.
- Track and report on committee engagement, effectiveness, and impact.
Measurement & Optimization
- Monitor content performance across channels using analytics and stakeholder feedback to inform improvements.
- Track progress toward editorial KPIs and regularly report on impact.
- Manage editorial timelines to ensure efficient and effective delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in editorial, communications, journalism, or content strategy.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into compelling, digestible formats.
- Comfortable working with executives and external stakeholders on sensitive or strategic content.
- Location: Remote, with a preference for someone located in New York
