DSIP Program Assistant

We are seeking a DSIP Program Assistant (PA) for a summer position requiring approximately 27 hours per week plus on-call assistance as needed. The DSIP Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the residential portion of the Diversity Summer Internship Program. The PA has the opportunity to be a role model while guiding the development of DSIP summer interns. As such the PA is required to have mature critical thinking and problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal communication skills. The PA receives direct supervision from the DSIP Director. The PA will start meeting with the Director prior to the program start date in May for program planning, training and guidance.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct sessions on topics pertaining to personal & professional development with DSIP Director.
  • Support administrative tasks and program planning.
  • Meet with interns throughout the summer to offer support.
  • Review assignment submissions and provide feedback including the final research paper.


Student/Community Development

  • Responsible to abide by all JHU policies including, but not limited to, code of conduct, ethics, housing, substance use, and Title IX as well as DSIP’s policies.
  • The PA is also responsible for reporting any policy violations to DSIP Director.
  • Serve as a role model at all times by enforcing policies and establishing a residential environment that stimulates academic and personal development.
  • Reside in Charles Commons for the duration of the program (June 1st- July 28,2025).
  • Coordinate and provide support for interns throughout the week from 6 pm-11pm.
  • Participate in the management of student behavior issues in the residence halls by responding to incidents, meeting with students, and pursuing appropriate action.
  • Work closely with Housing services as well as housekeeping staff to promote a safe and clean-living environment.
  • Participate in responding to overnight incidents and emergencies as they occur.
  • Meet regularly with interns for check-in (one-on-one or small group) Meet/report in weekly with DSIP Director.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Director.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or general education equivalent.
  • Two years office/clerical experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
