JOB TITLE: Data Center Critical Facilities Technician (CFT) Intern
SUMMARY: Are you a military service member within or nearing your 180-day window for separation from active duty? If so, Aligned Data Centers offers a unique opportunity through our DoD Skillbridge - Data Center Critical Facilities Technician Internship Program to help you transition into a rewarding civilian career in Data Center Operations and Critical Facilities Engineering.
As a participant in our Internship Program, you will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology in a digital infrastructure environment, supporting critical facilities operations. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to translate your military skills into civilian expertise while earning real-world industry qualifications and certifications. You’ll be part of a dynamic team, building experience and expanding your professional network, all while gaining familiarity with corporate culture.
In This Internship You Will
Dive headfirst into the data center operations at our state-of-the-art campuses – you will learn about critical infrastructure, facility maintenance, and uptime assurance.
Receive specialized training on power distribution, cooling systems, and more in a mix of hands on and online training.
Earn real-world industry qualifications and certifications such as OSHA 10
Expand your civilian network by building relationships with professionals in technology, engineering, and facilities management.
Gain familiarity with civilian corporate culture in a supportive environment where your military experience is valued and understood – Aligned’s Operations team comprises over 30% veterans.
Facility & Infrastructure Maintenance
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (to include, but not limited to):
Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on critical and non-critical equipment, including HVAC systems, plumbing, fire suppression, life safety, and building management systems (BMS).
Maintain and troubleshoot complex systems, including electrical, HVAC, chillers, generators, UPS, and fire detection systems.
Conduct regular site inspections, monitor alarms, and support energy efficiency measures.
Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex alarm issues, following standard operating procedures.
Operate and maintain critical infrastructure, such as plumbing, fire suppression, and safety systems, ensuring optimal functionality.
Perform facility upkeep as needed, including minor building repairs, plumbing, light electrical work,
Work Orders & Project Support
Receive and execute work orders for preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems and building physical structure.
Support auxiliary equipment and make minor changes to mechanical and electrical systems as needed.
Participate in infrastructure projects and provide technical solutions to improve performance and minimize downtime.
Collaborate with internal teams and third-party contractors to ensure safe, compliant operations.
Complete maintenance work orders and documentation in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Collaboration & Team Support
Work closely with other team members to troubleshoot and resolve facility-related incidents.
Support continuous improvement processes by offering recommendations for system enhancements.
Qualifications
Must meet all eligibility requirements outlined in DOD Instruction 1322.29 and NAVADMIN 222/15. Required
Technical associates degree, military-technical school, or civilian technical trade school completion
Education level: Working on bachelor’s degree or relevant experience with 1-4 years in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Comprehensive knowledge of critical infrastructure i.e., UPS, generator, BMS, chillers, life safety systems
Coursework in HVAC design or heat transfer and thermodynamics
Knowledge of HVAC testing and balancing methodologies
Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, to sustain focus on long tasks.
Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas.
Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity.
Ability to lift 50 lbs
The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environments.
Strong interpersonal and time management skills
Skillbridge Internship positions are open to active duty and/or transitioning military members. Compensation or pay for this role is made through the service member's current enlistment contract based on pay guidelines set by the Department of Defense (DoD)
