Summary

The Documentation Specialist creates clear documentation by translating complex information into accessible and easily understood content for various audiences. Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy. Ensures project deliverables and/or work products meet contract requirements and are formatted to the agreed upon standards. Provides assistance in layout, formatting, and grammar to deliver high quality output. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS * The ability to obtain, maintain, and access classified information at the Secret level. * Experience in technical writing and documentation pertaining to all aspects of IT. * Experience in preparing technical documentation, including conducting research on applicable standards. Gathers, analyzes, and composes technical information. * Conducts research and ensures the use of proper technical terminology. * Translates technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and nontechnical personnel. * For applications built to run in a Windows environment, uses the standard help compiler to prepare all on-line documentation. * Demonstrated experience and ability to work independently or under only general direction. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Interviews Subject Matter Experts and translates detailed information into easily understood, well structured, polished documents. * Reviews, edits, and proofread documents. Converts document into standard template formats ready for delivery to the supervisor and/or customer.  This may include written and graphical technical materials, including system configurations, interface control documents, system workflow diagrams, drawings, white papers, studies, executive briefings, how-to-guides, instruction manuals/guides, and monthly reports. * Helps ensure deliverables and work products are stored in a clear, concise, and accessible means. * Aids in ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices of style and format. Excellent usage of the English language and overall structure and organization of material to create professional documentation. * Works in a team environment. * Responsible for adherence to qualitative and quantitative standards as established to meet contractual obligations and changing business requirements. * FOR IT RELATED PROJECTS: * Creates and publishes technical documentation and manuals. Collects and interprets technical data or information and coordinates layout for publication. * Provides support for all aspects of configuration, administration, training, and end user's support. * Authors and updates IT end-user documentation. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field and a minimum of zero to two (0-2) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
