Position Summary:
The Division Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the company’s division’s financial operations. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, and risk management. The Division Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting and cash management, as well as providing strategic financial advice to support business growth and decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Oversee the preparation and timely submission of accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.
Prepare and analyze financial reports for management and stakeholders, providing insights into financial performance and trends.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct financial analysis to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for growth.
Prepare financial forecasts and budgets and monitor performance against these plans.
Analyze financial data to support strategic decision-making and identify potential risks (i.e., customer profitability).
Accounting Operations:
Manage the Finance and Accounting department, including staff supervision, training, and development.
Oversee the general ledger and accounts payable/receivable functions.
Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Implement and monitor risk management policies and procedures.
Tax Compliance:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business accounting, finance, or related field.
8+ years of experience in a financial accounting role.
Deep understanding of GAAP and financial analysis.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and data structuring skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Advanced skills utilizing financial software, systems, and tools (e.g., Excel, QB, NetSuite).
Strong time-management and organization skills, along with attention to detail.
Proven ability to manage and motivate teams.
Skills and Qualifications Preferred:
5+ years of experience as a Controller.
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant Designation.
Experience in the construction industry.
Experience with multiple ERP systems.
Working Conditions / Environment:
This position operates in an office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
This is a largely sedentary position; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
