The job

As the Software Engineering (SWE) Director at Biomemory, you will manage all the software activities of the company, from the development to match the system architecture and specifications, up to the production release and maintenance, including outsourced components. You will support the System Integration & Validation team, in charge of putting together all the components of the Biomemory system and verifying it, before being delivered to internal operations or customers.

📍 The position is on-site in Paris.

You will be reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, who drives the global system architecture and the implementation strategy. You will work with the Biomemory Program Director and the various groups within Biomemory to assure the timely execution and delivery of projects.

The software activities of Biomemory cover four domains with specific expertise and resources:

  1. Data storage management (S3, CEPH, file system, networking, Data Bases, GUI, services, APIs, ….running on servers)
  2. Data processing (encoding, decoding, compression, ECC, signal processing, data mining, AI,……..)
  3. Embedded software (firmware, local control, automation scripts, APIs, drivers,…)
  4. IT infrastructure (IT resource management, GitLab, internal Data Center, security,….

While your team will perform unit testing on its releases, the System Integration & Validation group is in charge of the integration and end-to-end testing. There are tight interdependencies and thisrequires a harmonious collaboration between both teams. In many aspects, the software needs are linked to the biotechnology, and you will be frequently interacting with the Chief Scientific Officer and the biotech team.

You will assure the high quality and robustness of the software produced internally or externally, the documentation, and the long-term maintainability.

You will staff up the software team and select external partners to achieve the software-related objectives of Biomemory and enable the timely launch of commercial products and offers.

You will play a key role in scaling up a breakthrough data storage technology.

About you

  • You have a broad experience (at least 10 years) acquired as a Developer and/or Software Architect, within projects for commercial products or offers, and spanning from server-level data management to embedded software.
  • You understand how computer systems work, from software algorithms to hardware components.
  • You understand how Unix systems work, especially those based on the Linux kernel, such as Ubuntu and are aware of many of the industry standards driving the software development for systems to be used in Data Centers.
  • You are familiar with IT infrastructure management, networking protocols and security.
  • You are a pragmatic and technically grounded team leader who thrives on building and delivering software for real-world systems.
  • You are rigorous, comfortable with agile methodologies, with a strong engineering mindset and a get-it-done attitude.
  • You are aware of best development practices (design patterns, source code management, comments, tests, fuzzing, documentation, CI/CD) and you are used to perform deep dive code reviews.
  • You remain hands-on and regularly code software and test new tools, to remain up-to-date or to help your teams.
  • You are motivated and used to efficiently interact with experts in various technology domains to assure the software delivers the optimized functionality and performance.
  • You have successful built and led software teams from development to product launch phases—ideally for large systems mixing cloud interface, IT/server software and embedded software.
  • You are based in Paris—or ready to relocate—and fluent in English.
  • You’re at ease in dynamic, fastpaced environments and bring the energy and creativity to solve problems even when the path isn’t obvious.
  • You are excited to build a team, launch products, and shape the future of the next-generation DNA data storage systems from Biomemory.
