Duties
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Development & Supervision
* Supervise, develop, and/or evaluate high school principals, assistant principals, deans, department chairs, and athletic directors.
* Coach and support building leaders to strengthen instructional leadership, operational management, and transformational school culture.
* Facilitate leadership development programs that promote equity, instructional rigor, and responsive school leadership.
* Conduct school site visits and leadership walk-throughs to support implementation of school improvement strategies.
Instructional Improvement & Framework Implementation
* Provide leadership and strategic oversight for instructional practices across all district high schools.
* Supervise the Director of Instructional Framework, who is responsible for the implementation and sustainability of the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) instructional model.
* Ensure instructional practices are aligned with the Danielson Framework, curriculum standards, and best practices for student engagement and rigor.
Professional Development & Performance Management
* Supervise the Director of Professional Development and Performance Management, who oversees all certified and non-certified staff evaluations.
* Ensure fidelity in the use of evaluation tools, timelines, and feedback systems for teachers, support staff, and administrators.
* Lead alignment of professional development to evaluation outcomes, instructional goals, and staff needs.
* Oversee evaluator calibration processes and support principals/APs in performance conversations.
School Improvement Planning & Accountability
* Guide development and implementation of school improvement plans (SIPs) aligned with district goals and data indicators.
* Facilitate quarterly data reviews with school teams to monitor progress in academics, culture, and staff performance.
* Ensure strategic use of data to inform decision-making, address achievement gaps, and monitor growth.
Equity, Culture, SEL & MTSS
* Oversee the development and integration of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks and practices into schoolwide systems.
* Lead and align districtwide implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), ensuring effective academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.
* Ensure schools build inclusive environments that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and supportive of all learners.
* Collaborate with the Director of High School Counselors and Social Workers to implement SEL curriculum, restorative practices, and mental health supports.
Oversight of Key Departments
The Deputy Superintendent of School Improvement provides supervision, coordination, and/or development for the following leadership roles and departments:
* High School Principals and Assistant Principals
* Deans, Athletic Directors, and Department Chairs
* Director of Instructional Framework (GRR implementation)
* Director of Professional Development and Performance Management
* Director of High School Counselors and Social Workers
* High School Parent Engagement and Advocacy Specialist
* Ensure cross-functional collaboration and alignment across all school improvement departments and initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
* Serve as the lead connector between central office and schools for all matters related to academic and cultural improvement.
* Build strong relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners.
* Communicate strategic goals, data trends, and key initiatives to stakeholders regularly and transparently.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
* Education/Training:
* Master's Degree in Educational Research, Educational Leadership, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
* Licensure:
* Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a general administrative endorsement (preferred)
* Experience:
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in education-related research, data analysis, or assessment, preferably in K-12 education.
* Supervisory experience preferred.
* Knowledge, Skills, & Dispositions:
* Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis, data visualization, and research methodology.
* Proficient in student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Skyward) and assessment systems.
* Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance regulations.
* Skilled with data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, SPSS, or R.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster a culture of data-informed decision-making.
Desired Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
Salary/Benefits
Compensation & Benefits
* Salary Range: $133,459 - $180,559 (regionally competitive, based on experience and qualifications)
* Benefits: As per the position contract.
