Position Overview:

We are seeking a Director of Operations to oversee day-to-day production, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and safety programs across John Payne Enterprises' companies. This hands-on leadership role will drive operational excellence, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong construction or fencing background and be comfortable communicating effectively with everyone from labor crews to internal leadership, EPCs, and corporate purchasing teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight: Manage and optimize daily project production schedules across all active subsidiaries. Ensure all projects meet timeline, quality, and budget targets.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records, oversee procurement, and supply chain activities, and forecast material needs.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee fleet and equipment maintenance schedules to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Safety Leadership: Enforce company-wide safety policies and OSHA compliance. Conduct regular site inspections, safety meetings, and training programs.
  • Operational Reporting: Provide regular updates to ownership on production status, resource needs, safety incidents, and KPIs.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Relations: Interface with vendors, subcontractors, EPCs, and purchasing contacts to maintain schedules, resolve issues, and support project success.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor operations staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement best practices for efficiency, cost control, and operational quality across the business units.


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of operational leadership experience, preferably in construction, fencing, infrastructure, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience managing field teams, equipment, and inventory in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interface professionally with both field and corporate audiences.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with project management and inventory management software is a plus.
  • Fluent or conversational Spanish is highly desirable.
  • OSHA certification or strong knowledge of safety regulations preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but equivalent practical experience in operations and construction management will be considered.
