PRIMARY RESPONSIBLILITES:
* Monitor and direct decisions regarding the growth of the network and supporting systems in a cost effective, forward-looking, and timely manner.
* Ensure proper documentation, system management, maintenance and retention of Bluebird's network mission critical databases, architecture library, and network capacity records.
* Lead a team who are collectively responsible for the generation of all infrastructure, best practices for utilizing physical fiber plant, and capacity plans and designs for Bluebird's production network.
* Coordinate, develop, test/proof of concept, and provide network costing support for all of Bluebird's Network Management Systems.
* Assist in the annual preparation of Bluebird's Capital & Expense Planning Budget and oversee the internal process development and controls necessary to manage these budget elements.
* Define and instrument key business metrics for the team, continuously analyze them to derive insights and improvements initiatives.
* Contribute to Bluebird's Internal Process Improvement Projects through technical leadership and documentation of Bluebird's standardization and compliance processes.
* Oversee and participate in Tier-3 operational support of IP/MPLS network services to include reactive response to routing, configuration, and control plane services and function.
* Oversee the network planning staff and the evolution planning for all mission critical platforms as well as capacity/capability projections and timing.
* Drive the automation roadmap of all automatable tasks performed by the team, substantially reducing cycle time and improving quality and consistency. Define the outlook, strategy, and goals for the team, in alignment with their partners, and guide them throughout their execution.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Bluebird Director of Network Architecture provides evolution design, planning, and management of Bluebird Fiber's telecommunications network infrastructure. The role involves developing network strategies, selecting technologies, and ensuring the network's scalability, security, and reliability. The incumbent is responsible for setting strategic direction regarding technology deployment decisions as well as the development and maintenance of mission critical support systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* 10 to 15 years in the IP/MPLS broadband services environment with an emphasis in network planning and evolution.
* Technical college degree or equivalent work experience, preferred
* A strong background and understanding of Engineering Economics.
* Operations and Engineering background with the ability to support and provide technical direction to others.
* A strong understanding of DWDM platforms and services with the ability to manage timely and cost-effective network backbone capacity decisions.
* Current experience in the evolution of broadband networking, IP/MPLS services and standards, and technologies that are emerging in the industry.
* SONET and other methods of Telecommunications Transmission engineering experience, preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Strong PC skills with an emphasis in understanding and developing Cost Models and Return of Investment (ROI) Models.
* Strong oral and written communications skills.
* Hands on operational support skills and experience, preferred
* Fundamental understanding of fiber optics engineering and optical characteristics, preferred.
