Required Education/Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
● Minimum of five years of relevant IT experience, with at least two years in a leadership or management role.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
● Master’s degree
● Experience with networks, servers, end-user devices, and educational technology
● Previous experience in a school setting, especially a high school
● Familiarity with managing vendor contracts, hardware/software purchasing, and leasing agreements
● Supervisory experience with both professional staff and student teams

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Director of Information Technology is responsible for the strategic planning, budgeting, security, and day-to-day management of Benet Academy’s technology infrastructure and services. This role oversees networks, servers, end-user technology, vendor relationships, and the IT support team to ensure the smooth and secure operation of all technology systems in a college-preparatory high school environment rooted in the Catholic faith and Benedictine tradition.
Essential Functions
Technology Management - hardware/software
● Provide leadership for the planning, implementation, maintenance, and security of all network, server, and end-user systems.
● Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues promptly to minimize disruptions to teaching, learning, and administrative operations.
● Develop and maintain protocols for technology security, data privacy, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
● Provide recommendations to supervisors and purchase hardware and software for school programs.
● Remain informed about emerging technologies and best practices to continually advance the school’s technological capabilities.
Planning/Budgeting/Supervision
● Develop a forward-thinking technological vision, ensuring that Benet Academy remains at the forefront of educational technology and continues to align technology use with strategic institutional objectives.
● Develop and manage short- and long-term IT plans and budgets, ensuring alignment with the school’s strategic goals and operational needs.
● In collaboration with the school’s leadership, revise technology policies, including but not limited to, the Acceptable Use Policy.
● Evaluate, select, and manage relationships, programs and contracts with technology vendors and government agencies, including but not limited to hardware, software, services, and leasing agreements.
● Supervise and support the IT team, including but not limited to educational technology support staff and a team of student interns.
● Encourage continuous learning and professional development for the IT team.
School and Mission Support
● Serve as a collaborative, problem-solving partner with faculty, staff, and administrators to identify and meet technology needs.
● Communicate proactively and effectively with school leadership, faculty, staff, students, and vendors about technology initiatives, changes, and issues.
● Serve on various administrative teams and/or committees, as requested.
● Provide small and large group presentations or professional development to various school constituencies.
● Establish key performance indicators for evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of the IT department and report regularly to the President and Principal on progress.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or President.
Technical Emergency Assistance
● In case of unexpected hardware or software failure during the working hours, provide prompt and courteous end user support for faculty, staff, and students.
● In case of unexpected hardware or software failure outside normal working hours, provide reasonable communication and support to ensure normal operations resume as soon as possible.
● Develop and maintain a disaster recovery and school continuity plan to ensure minimal disruption in the event of a major technology failure or crisis.
Other Duties
● Adhere to all of Benet Academy’s policies and procedures, as well as the policies of the Diocese of Joliet.
● Serve as a positive role model and always supports the teachings of the Roman Catholic. Church. Creates a faith-focused learning environment within the department and school and maintains a Catholic culture in his or her department that is emphasized including but not limited to words, deeds, manner of dress, and actions.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Noise level is that of a typical school.
Physical Demands (To include but not limited to)
● Mobility: Moving between different locations within the school to troubleshoot issues, set up equipment, or attend meetings.
● Lifting & Carrying: Occasionally lifting and transporting hardware such as servers, computers, and networking equipment up to 50 lbs.
● Fine Motor Skills: Handling small components, cables, and tools for hardware installation and maintenance.
● Extended Screen Time: Spending long hours working on computers, managing systems, and troubleshooting issues.
● Standing & Walking: Conducting training sessions, supervising IT staff, and overseeing technology-related projects.
● Emergency Response: Quickly addressing urgent technical failures, sometimes requiring after-hours work.
Position Type/Hours of Work
This is a 12-month, full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. but may include some evenings and weekends.
Compensation/Benefits
Range of $100,000 to $110,000.
This position offers a comprehensive benefits package and is awarded 4 weeks of vacation time per fiscal year, with no rollover, anytime not taken within the fiscal year will be lost. One (1) personal day per fiscal year, and paid holidays. This position does not have a predefined number of sick days and sick leave may be taken as needed by notifying your supervisor as soon as possible. However, excessive absences may require documentation from a medical professional.
Travel
This position may require local travel.
