Summary

The North Carolina Department of Justice, led by the Attorney General of North Carolina, represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials, and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs' and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.  The Public Protection Section (PPS) provides direct assistance to the people of North Carolina through policy, education, outreach, and litigation. PPS educates citizens about the justice system. It helps develop policy and legislation regarding public safety issues, provides crime prevention and victims assistance programs, connects citizens with community resources, and works with other agencies to coordinate Department of Justice services for the people of North Carolina. It also works on litigation matters related to similar topics. Working closely with senior leadership of the Department, this position will be responsible for managing the Department's relationships with local and tribal governments, delivering outreach presentations, and building strategic partnerships with North Carolina communities. The role involves collaborating with elected officials, community groups, and other stakeholders to advance the Department's mission throughout the state, ensuring effective communication and coordination between NCDOJ and relevant stakeholders. This position will require regular travel throughout North Carolina. Key Responsibilities: * Intergovernmental Relations:  Serve as the primary point of contact between the NC DOJ and local government. Represent the Department in meetings with key policymakers, coalitions, and task forces. Lead efforts in developing and maintaining the Department's strategic plan for intergovernmental relations. Coordinate and facilitate communication between the Department and other governmental entities. Prepare policy briefs, talking points, and testimony for senior leadership. * External Partnerships:  Foster collaboration with advocacy groups, professional organizations, and other entities that influence or align with the Department's priorities. * Outreach: Develop, coordinate and deliver outreach presentations and events aimed at educating the public and supporting the Department's strategic objectives.   THE RECRUITMENT RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO $58,613 - $91,583. Salary determination is based upon the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as departmental budget and equity considerations. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC17.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  Please detail ALL work history including non-state service experience.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize information to inform decision-making and strategy development.Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Management preference: Experience in intergovernmental affairs, public policy, government relations, or a related field, and experience in a leadership or management role.
