Business Development – Marketing and Sales
Maintains strong relationships with clients by maximizing value delivered to clients and actively participates in marketing and business development.
Represents the firm and its mission and values to the public and support new business development.
Function as a major client contact, assuring that client needs are met.
See that satisfactory relationships are maintained with clients, consultants and other vested interests.
Participant in the continuing evolution of the Firm’s marketing plan.
Initiate new projects and follow‐up on possible ones.
Maintain close contact with clients and Project Managers to assure high client satisfaction.
Be active and visible in professional, business, and civic organizations.
Assist Marketing, and Project Managers in in preparing proposals and responding to new business opportunities.
Develop new Group competencies to support target markets.
Project Administration
The Director of Engineering provides leadership consistent with the Firm’s vision and strategic objectives, and goals. Responsible for high level communication and coordination between Departments to assure maximum synergy and productivity.
Manage large and complex projects involving special skills and multi-disciplinary teams overseeing engineering staff and ensure that goals and objectives are met.
Reviews and approve Project Plans for ALL projects prior to being released for production.
Technical Administration
Assist in the collection of outstanding invoices when requested.
Maintain frequent contact with clients; debriefs and critiques project performance.
Tool Development: Identify the specific need regarding process automation, calculate the labor savings (hours and dollars), identify and document a formal business plan that includes the ROI, and present the proposal to the President and CFO for consideration. If approved, ensure that the effort/tool is implemented into the production process and business requirement and provide.
Human Resources and Office Management
Supervise the work of all engineering personnel on department projects.
Take responsibility for overall management and staffing.
Maintain close contact with staff to assure high morale, design quality and production efficiency.
Demonstrate a caring for other staff members by modeling appropriate professional behavior.
Act with dedication as a leader/mentor by encouraging professional development and by providing opportunities for growth.
Conduct performance evaluations and salary reviews in conjunction with superiors.
Develop and maintain stable, motivated staff and high morale.
Mentor staff in professional development, especially in technical competence, team building, continuous improvement and client relations.
Advocate, demonstrate, and demand appropriate professional behavior and take corrective action when necessary.
Challenge staff to grow and provide opportunities for advancement.
Identify and sponsor candidates for seminars and other professional improvement programs.
Interview and, when approved, hire and train new staff and dismiss existing staff when necessary.
Involve staff in decisions that directly affect their areas of work.
Provide appropriate recognition, opportunity and job security based on attitude, competence, accomplishment, and contribution to the performance of the department.
Develop and maintain a succession plan for all key staff.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC)
Enforce company quality management program and ensure strict quality control procedures throughout design and construction phases.
Implement and conduct a formal on‐going design review program.
Develop, administer and monitor the schedule and budget of all projects.
Monitor projects on a periodic basis to ensure quality control and loss prevention measures.
Periodically review the quality control program to provide an independent overview of its effectiveness.
Maintain all work of the highest professional quality.
Develop and maintain a benchmarking system or statistical basis for continuous improvement.
Training and development of staff
Maintain an active presence and knowledge about each Corrective Action procedure.
Assist in the development and monitoring of the firm’s engineering standards, policy and procedures.
Actively mentor staff to provide them with the vision necessary for their professional and personal growth.
Strive to organize work and jobs to provide the maximum amount of responsibility and authority.
Work with Project Managers to determine project schedules and budgets and structure the process and products to assure compliance with the schedule and budget finally approved by the Operations Group.
Make certain that all work meets regulatory requirements.
Understand the project and state stamping requirements
Provide guidance to Project Teams on all aspects of jobs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school is required.
PE License.
8+ years of engineering management experience preferred.
