Position: Director of Community Response   

Position type: Full-time, exempt   

Salary Range: $85,000-$90,000 per year 

Supervisor: Executive Director  

 


The Policing Alternatives and Diversion (PAD) Initiative seeks a Director of Community Response to provide strategic leadership and management of PAD’s Community Response services, which provides non-police alternate first response to the City of Atlanta. PAD’s mission is to reduce arrests and incarceration of people experiencing extreme poverty, problematic substance use, or mental health concerns, and increase the accessibility of supportive services in Atlanta and Fulton County. PAD’s Community Response teams respond to calls received through the City of Atlanta 311 and 911 lines to address community concerns and provide resources and support that improve quality-of-life. The Director of Community Response serves on the leadership team and will report to the Executive Director.   


Responsibilities:  

  • Maintain, develop and document PAD’s Community Response strategy, policies and protocol;  
  • Provide management and support to the Community Response team, including Supervisors, Community Responders, Referral Coordinators, and other positions as necessary; 
  • Maintain a pro re nata (PRN) pool of Community Responders to ensure consistent staff coverage Monday-Friday, 7am-midnight; 
  • Lead the training and professional development strategy for Community Response, and engage with local, state and national partners to stay informed and engaged with best practices in the field;  
  • Facilitate partnerships with law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, mobile crisis teams and other partners to reduce police involvement, arrest and incarceration;  
  • Collaborate with ATL311 and E911 to identify and increase referrals to PAD for appropriate calls and conduct ongoing call reviews and cross-training; 
  • Represent PAD in public forums and collaborate with PAD Community Engagement team and external partners to promote PAD Community Response; 
  • Work closely with PAD’s Director of Social Services to identify, grow and maintain community-based partnerships that provide behavioral health, housing, and other resources to the people we serve;  
  • Manage data and reporting for Community Response services, including maintaining internal quality control, drafting narrative reports, and presenting to City of Atlanta, Fulton County, and other stakeholders.  
  • Maintain individual privacy in accordance with HIPAA; 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience in program development, management and administration; 
  • Experience working in support of people who are experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, and/or extreme poverty, preferably in Metro Atlanta area. 
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience supervising individuals in a social service, first responder or similar setting;  
  • Understanding of and commitment to harm reduction, alternatives to policing and incarceration, and advocacy for care-based responses to community concerns; 
  • Strong computer skills utilizing database and office suite software; 

 

PAD provides a salary range of $85,000-$90,000, comprehensive benefits, and a strong vacation policy in a people-centered environment.
