The University is seeking a high calibre and seasoned professional to take up the position of Director of Public Affairs and Communications (DPAC). The appointee will be working in close consultation with the senior management team and stakeholders of the University to provide overall leadership and strategic direction in formulating and implementing the University's communications and public relations initiatives in local, regional and international markets.
The Role
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President (Global Engagement and Communications), the DPAC will lead the Public Affairs and Communications unit of the Global Engagement and Communications Office and act as the chief communication strategist for the University. The appointee will oversee the development and execution of public relations and publicity programs to enhance the image and visibility of the University's brand locally, regionally and internationally. The appointee is expected to initiate, develop and lead publicity, communications and public affairs efforts across various units of the University to meet its public relations and marketing objectives, with the goal of promoting the University as a brand of choice to relevant stakeholders including academics, students, employers and partners. The appointee is also expected to work closely with the Public Affairs Department of the HKUST Guangzhou (GZ) campus on cross campus initiatives.
The DPAC will provide strong leadership in organising a wide range of publicity, engagement and promotional initiatives; playing a key role in crisis management; and ensuring high quality delivery of the University’s communication materials.
The Candidate
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualifications, preferably in corporate communications, public affairs or a related discipline, with around 20 years of work experience in relation to the above specified responsibilities. The ideal candidate should be a team player with broad knowledge of local and international landscapes of education, innovation and technology development; strong leadership with a strategic mind and good judgement; and demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of stakeholders in a dynamic environment. Strong media connections and a high degree of proficiency in English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua) are expected.
Appointment to the position will be on three-year fixed term contract basis, renewable on mutual agreement. Competitive remuneration and generous fringe benefits, including housing where appropriate, will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
