SUMMARY:
Responsible for a high level of project quality, full client satisfaction and deliverables that are based on sound architectural judgments. Establishes and maintains quality assurance for accuracy, thoroughness, appearance, efficiency and constructability of projects while minimizing liability and cost. Provides technical supervision to ensure that man‐hour and schedule targets are met and provides coordination so projects are performed in a logical sequence to minimize rework and offset scheduling conflicts.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- Review quality, accuracy, and completeness of projects with regard to building code compliance, architectural standards and MEP/SE/CE coordination.
- Establish quality control methods, ensure use by all and develop techniques for process improvement and project documentation.
- Develop ways to build office technical skill level, inspire short cuts, eliminate duplicate effort / rework and increase productivity.
- Establish, maintain and improve the PMO (Project Management Office) functions of the firm and serve as a leader with regard to successful delivery of projects to the Client base
- Provide design guidance, mentorship and leadership at all stages of projects and maintain architectural design and production standards and procedures.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality
- Personally review and coordinate all work at critical times during each phase including specifications, CAD/REVIT/BIM models, project documents and design intent.
- Approve construction documents for release to bidders, submittal for permitting and as submitted to owners and clients for review and approval.
- Review the appropriateness of fees for various project types and review of proposal template, terms and conditions including indemnification needs and work scope clarity.
Technical
- Responsible for determining drawing approach, layout, number of drawings and details in concert with office staff.
- Accept responsibility for the thoroughness, completeness, and integrity of project deliverables with the possibility of signing and sealing permit and construction documents
- Analyze building-zoning code for active & potential projects, review permit comments and provide CA support including shop drawing review.
Production
- Establish design standards and procedures for integrated system of design, consultant coordination, contract, specifications, and construction document delivery.
- Perform technical evaluations of building models, (both in‐house and of consultants), in order to develop workflow procedures that maximize productivity.
- Develop improvements to BIM production procedures, graphics, standards and techniques for increased productivity and quality.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Actively mentor staff to provide them with the vision necessary for their professional and personal growth.
- Recommend appropriate staffing levels and coordinate activities in order to meet and exceed established schedules and budget margins
SECONDARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Assume role of a Project Manager or Project Architect on specific projects as necessary.
- Perform special projects and other reasonable business‐related duties as requested and delegated by the Principal or Managing Director
Time Allotment:
- 75% project related
- 10% business development
- 15% administrative
- Or as otherwise determined in conjunction with Principal and Managing Director
ORGANZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the Managing Director.
SOFTWARE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in Revit required
- Experience with RHINO and 3dMax preferred
- Experience with ADOBE Suite – including Photoshop, Acrobat, and InDesign
- Knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements
- 15+ years of project experience in an architectural practice, Architectural Licensure required
Physical Demands:
This position may require local travel to project and client locations, seminar locations, conferences, etc.
