The Serve fleet has been delighting merchants, customers, and pedestrians along the way in Los Angeles while doing commercial deliveries. We’re looking for talented individuals who will grow robotic deliveries from surprising novelty to efficient ubiquity.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Fleet Operations Director will be responsible for overseeing the repair and maintenance operations for our food delivery robot fleet. This leader will ensure that our robots are running at peak performance across all markets, from day-to-day repairs and maintenance to long-term strategic planning and scaling. This role will play a key part in establishing repair timeliness SLAs, managing spare parts inventory, and planning the growth of the operation as we expand into new markets across the U.S.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in scaling operations quickly and efficiently, managing teams, optimizing cost structures, and executing strategic plans to ensure operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Repair & Maintenance Operations: Lead end-to-end robot repair and maintenance, enforcing SLAs to reduce downtime and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Inventory & Spare Parts Management: Develop inventory strategies to ensure part availability while minimizing excess. Forecast demand across markets and partner with supply chain to streamline procurement.
  • Shipping & Logistics: Oversee timely, well-documented shipments. Work with vendors and carriers to optimize logistics, reduce costs, and resolve transit issues.
  • Demand Planning & Scaling: Design and implement scalable systems and workflows to support rapid fleet growth. Identify bottlenecks and drive solutions to expand operational capacity.
  • Cost Optimization: Create and implement cost-saving initiatives across maintenance, repairs, and procurement without compromising service quality.
  • Depot & Warehouse Management: Design and optimize depot and warehouse layouts for efficiency. Lead depot setup in new markets to align with fleet expansion needs.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop service teams, providing tools, training, and performance oversight. Foster a high-accountability, high-morale environment focused on continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Execution & KPI Management: Partner with senior leaders on growth strategies. Track KPIs to assess operational performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Technology & Tools: Ensure teams are equipped with modern repair, diagnostics, and fleet management tools. Stay informed on tech trends in robotics maintenance.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in fleet operations, repair/maintenance, or related functions in fast-growth, tech-driven environments
  • Proven success scaling operations, reducing costs, and optimizing processes
  • Experience leading large, cross-functional teams and building high-performance cultures
  • Background in robotics, automotive, or other hardware-intensive industries preferred
  • Expertise in fleet repair, SLAs, inventory planning, and warehouse management
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Ability to set and manage KPIs, operational metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Proficiency in tools like SAP, Oracle, or similar systems; skilled in data-driven decision making
  • Familiarity with robotics and diagnostic tools
