BillionToOne is seeking an Associate Director/Director, Data Science to lead and scale our data science function. In this role, you will drive the development of advanced analytical frameworks and machine learning models that enhance our genetic testing products. You will lead a team of data scientists and analysts, partnering cross-functionally with bioinformatics, engineering, product, marketing, and commercial teams to deliver data-driven strategies that fuel innovation and business growth. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership ability. The ideal candidate has a PhD or Master's in a relevant field, deep experience with statistical modeling and machine learning, and a proven track record of managing high-performing technical teams in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: * Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the data science roadmap to support BillionToOne's product development, commercial growth, and operational efficiency. * Team Development: Build, mentor, and lead a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture. * Advanced Analytics & Modeling: Develop and implement machine learning models and statistical frameworks to analyze genetic data and drive actionable insights. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with bioinformatics, product, engineering, marketing, finance, and operations teams to inform strategic decisions and optimize business outcomes. * Data Infrastructure & Optimization: Ensure efficient data retrieval, transformation, and integration across diverse sources (SQL, JSON, CSV, etc.), leveraging best practices in data engineering and automation. * Business Impact & Decision Support: Leverage data to inform key business metrics (revenue, profitability, customer acquisition, lifetime value) and develop models to optimize pricing, customer retention, and operational efficiencies. * Scalability & Innovation: Drive the adoption of emerging data science methodologies and tools to enhance BillionToOne's competitive advantage in genetic testing. * Stakeholder Communication: Translate complex analytical findings into actionable business insights for both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership. * Stay current with the latest research and advancements in commercial analytics, data science and genetic testing. Basic Requirements: * Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field. * 10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or machine learning, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role. * Deep expertise in R or Python for data analysis, modeling, and machine learning. * Strong SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, and management. * Experience working with diverse data formats (SQL, JSON, CSV, XLSX) and integrating data from multiple sources. * Strong understanding of business fundamentals, including revenue, profit, customer acquisition cost, and lifetime value. * Proven ability to lead teams, mentor talent, and drive data-driven business impact. * Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with attention to detail. * Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex data insights and strategies to executive leadership. Nice-To-Haves: * Experience in a high-growth, startup, or biotech/healthcare environment. * Exposure to cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure (AWS). * Knowledge of bioinformatics, genetics, or healthcare analytics. * Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.). * Experience with high growth and developing sales and marketing organizations.
