Job Summary

Dir Information Systems plans, develops, and implements IT solutions for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). This includes applications, systems architecture, network systems, enterprise-wide systems, computer operations, information security, service management, and telecommunications. Manages system design, examination, programming, installation, configuration, quality reviews, and user acceptance of BSWH software, hardware, and systems technology. Directs the development and examination of business requirements, system specifications, and system integration considerations to establish appropriate IT solutions for BSWH. Establishes and directs IT strategies, initiatives, programs, policies, processes, procedures, and standards to meet the IT needs of the organization in accordance with BSWH business goals. Identifies, recommends, and implements changes in software, hardware, and systems technology in collaboration with various BSWH departments and leadership. Assesses and directs the IT function and develops plans for improving IT solutions through increased efficiencies to achieve desired service, security, and cost levels. Develops functional plans for managing IT resources, including activities to be performed through third-party relationships to best manage the BSWH IT systems. Provides guidance on high priority IT projects, information system integrations, IT industry trends, and current and future IT investments needed to support BSWH business goals and future growth.

A system Director translates and implements strategic plans and goals for their area. Makes final judgments on operational matters and ensures goals are met. Recommends policies and organizational changes for the area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual goals. Erroneous judgments at this level can negatively impact the area's success, business unit, and possibly the overall organization. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs. Manages and advises subordinates to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

Essential Functions Of The Role

Responsible for leading the strategic direction, implementation, and optimization of clinical technology solutions within the organization. This role requires deep expertise in EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) support and strategy, as well as cloud computing, database management, and clinical technology innovation. The ideal candidate will play a key role in driving digital transformation and ensuring the seamless integration of clinical applications to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for clinical technology platforms, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of EPIC EMR support and optimization, working closely with clinicians, IT teams, and stakeholders to enhance system efficiency.
  • Lead the implementation and utilization of cloud computing solutions to improve scalability, security, and performance of clinical applications.
  • Oversee database management and interoperability, ensuring secure and efficient data storage, retrieval, and analytics capabilities.

Key Success Factors

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT management, IT application development, or related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in IT operations, service delivery, project management, service level management, and vendor management.
  • Knowledge of IT technologies, including server, virtualization, networking, and storage.
  • Experience leading large technology deployments and initiatives, preferably in healthcare environment.
  • Technical or service management certification preferred, such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
