Job Description
Purpose: This position helps make gospel teachings, resources, or services accessible to all in a simple and affordable way, supporting the mission of the Church.
Digital Printer Operators are responsible for operating and maintaining digital printing equipment such as a Xerox IGen digital press and online auxiliary equipment. Operators are expected to adhere to safety and quality standards, maintain a clean and organized work area, ensure efficient and productive operation of the equipment, meet or exceed production standards, adhere to schedules and customer specifications, and meet or exceed customer expectations. Qualified candidates will have a journey-level understanding and skill set of operating digital presses, traditional printing press and/or bookbinding knowledge, traditional workflow processes for the printing production industry and superior customer service skills. A successful candidate will be a self-starter, work with minimal direction yet be able to consistently meet pre-determined deadlines and work within set parameters. Must be willing to be trained by manufacturing representatives (which may or may not include traveling) and follow instructions to ensure equipment productivity and efficiency and protecting company investments.
Responsibilities
65% Operate digital press machines and finishing equipment
25% Set up PDF files for printing
10% Perform regular maintenance by keeping the press in optimal performance
- Prepares and prints orders on digital presses, such as: Fuji Jpress, Xerox Igen 5, Xerox Iridesse, and Xerox Nuvera copiers and printing presses.
- Ensures printed colors match the approved sample or digital proof using Serendipity; makes correct press adjustments and/or communicates with prepress what adjustments are required to successfully match colors to samples as needed; interact with prepress on a frequent basis
- Assesses multiple proofing options and compares with printed results
- Trouble-shoots challenging orders/projects
- Interacts with other production process owners and workers as needed for job completion
- Receives scheduling priority from group manager, supervisor with input from scheduling coordinator
- Maintains equipment, cleanliness and organization of department; makes minor repairs and mechanical adjustments as prescribed and as required
- Understands and prepares paperwork related to order/project
- Lifts and maneuvers product weighing up to 50 pounds with no assistance; able to lift larger loads with physical or mechanical assistance
- Acts as quality control inspector for products being produced ensuring that predetermined quality standards are met or exceeded
- Contact outside vendors for technical assistance when appropriate
Qualifications
- HS graduate or equivalent with min. 3 years experience working in printing facility as a Docutech, IGen, or Indigo-type press operator or related experience
- Intermediate to advanced computer knowledge; experience with Photoshop, and/or Adobe Acrobat.
- Must have working knowledge of the printing production workflow process such as Fiery Free Flow or other DFE's.
- Have mechanical aptitude being able to be trained to perform regular preventive maintenance and minor troubleshooting as needed
- Excellent eyesight being able to see detail printed material and differentiate and match color samples as provided
- Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor focusing on desired outcomes during challenging and stressful times; must be able to meet pre-determined deadlines
- Must demonstrate a proactive, creative approach to projects and the potential difficulties they may present
- May be required to work varying shifts and overtime as required to meet production schedules and deadlines including some holidays
