The Maine Trust for Local News, a nonprofit news organization, seeks an accomplished editor to lead the newsroom’s digital team.
We’re looking for an innovative and organized Digital Editor to help drive forward our mission of building up Maine communities through strong journalism. This role calls for a creative thinker who can help us reimagine how local stories are told and shared, even as we expand the scope of our audience.
You’ll oversee a team of digital producers who are tasked with curating our websites; sharing our journalism on social media platforms; writing and editing digital newsletters and alerts; creating engaging digital-only posts for Instagram and other platforms; moderating online story comments and interacting with our readers; among other daily duties.
The leader of this team will help us: increase engaged time with local stories; develop more loyal and returning readers; and boost our digital subscription conversions. We’ll accomplish this by elevating our coverage through alternative story formats that make smart use of video, data and visual elements, embracing the urgency of digital-first news, and making sure readers are exposed to a variety of content that informs, educates and entertains. The Digital Editor will also help develop strategy and organization for our daily and long-term efforts at curating and promoting online content.
Our preferred candidate will have proven digital experience, good news judgement and a track record as a professional change agent.
The Maine Trust for Local News is part of the National Trust for Local News, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sustaining strong, independent journalism across the country. You will be part of Maine’s largest newsgathering operation, and you’ll live in a region with an extraordinarily high quality of life. Experience editing daily news is preferred.
