Position Summary
Plans and delivers nutritional care to patients according to the physicians’ diagnoses, and the standards established by the hospital and the Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) department. Screens newly admitted patients to identify those at nutritional risk. Responsible for all clinical dietetic functions, including nutritional assessments, dietary treatment plans, goals, progress updates, follow-up evaluations, diet instructions, and food and drug interaction (DFI) instructions. Supervises dietetic services personnel. Performs assigned administrative duties in the absence of the FNS manager as needed. Performs as a member of the multidisciplinary care team. Provides support to members of the FNS Team and Patient Care Team.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Directs and conducts therapeutic programs for patients in conjunction with the standards established by the hospital.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide nutritional care appropriate to the age, growth and development of patients.
- Reviews trayline reports, utilizes electronic health record (EHR) to correctly screen and prioritize all patients at nutritional risks.
- Develops “Daily Patient worksheet” according to level assignments and various dietary functions.
- Completes all daily workload on “Daily Patient Worksheet.”
- Records all pertinent information in the EHR regarding the patients’ nutritional assessments, treatment/care plans, goals, progress updates, follow-up evaluations and diet and DFI instructions. Observes medical record documentation guidelines.
- Updates and maintains all patient nutritional records and transcribes all pertinent information onto the patients’ profile cards.
- Consults other health care professionals and incorporate patients’ nutritional plans into their overall care plan.
- Provides diet instruction to identified patients and/or families.
- Performs calorie count to assess oral nutrient intakes of identified patients.
- Inventories and orders nutritional products as needed.
- Demonstrates the ability to use all basic food service equipment.
- Trains and supervises dietary personnel in the provision of accurate trays to all patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of food safety and sanitation.
- Practices safe and injury free work habit, including proper lifting procedure.
- Assists in the development and monitoring of FNS Department’s performance improvement program.
- Performs assigned administrative duties in the absence of the FNS Manager.
- Revises, updates, and develops bilingual (English and Chinese) diet instruction materials.
- Assists in the development of the Diet Manual.
- Observes and assists to develop the FNS department policies and procedures.
- Assists to develop patient menus to meet the DRI standards.
- Interacts appropriately with patients and their families
- Maintains appropriate relations with hospital and medical staff.
- Provides nutrition information to hospital staff as requested.
- Communicates pertinent information to dietetic services personnel. Demonstrates good rapport, cooperation, and provides assistance as needed.
- Makes sound judgment based on facts and careful consideration.
- Able to respond to changes in workload; is creative, flexible and adaptive in all situation.
- Maintains personal hygiene for a well-groomed and professional image. Wears hair protection and clean shoes. Adheres to dress code.
- Demonstrates good judgment and cost-conscious attitude in daily operation, i.e. minimizing food and energy waste.
- Works to achieve the department and hospital goals.
- Consults supervisor promptly on unclear issues.
- Participates in community activities that promote Chinese Hospital, if assigned.
- Assists in the recruiting, orientation, and training of new dietetic services personnel and/or registered dietitian if needed.
- Conducts in-services for the FNS department and hospital staff.
- Completes the continuing professional educational requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration to maintain registration.
- Complies with Chinese Hospital Association Compliance Handbook including code of ethics and all statues, regulations and guidelines applicable to federal and state programs. Responsibilities include following the guidelines, reporting suspected violations of any statue, regulations, agreements and guidelines applicable to all healthcare programs.
- Follows Hospital and Department policies and procedures at all times, including but not limited to: Administrative Manual, Environment of Care, Human Resources, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethics, etc.
- Accepts and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Able to communicate effectively in Cantonese (or Toisan) and English, both verbally and in writing
- Current certification as a Registered Dietitian in the state of California, and evidence of continuing professional education to maintain registration
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to successfully pass pre-employment health screen requirements
Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous clinical experience in acute hospital preferred

Base Pay Scale
Starting at $38.28 – $49.95 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
