Major Tasks, Duties And Responsibilities
Demonstrates appropriate skills required to work with patients of any age.
Professionally answers the telephone, taking accurate messages and relaying information as needed.
Monitors patient lists on Cerner Care Compass software – looking for updated diet orders and other requests. Responsible for applying all orders in Cerner Care Compass and calling to verify orders if the orders are not clear.
Professionally contacts newly admitted patients and explains meal service, obtains patient's special food preferences as possible, accurately processes them in accordance with diet order. Communicates any concerns to Clinical Dietitians
Makes rounds, delivers and collects menus to patient care areas for patient meal selections
Professionally assists patients with meal selections as needed. Alerts concerns to Clinical Dietitians, when patients consistently make food choices that would compromise nutritional status.
Checks marked menus for accuracy. Double checks questionable food choices with Clinical Dietitians for approval
Coordinates all menu preparations accurately.
Accurately coordinates snacks and nutritional supplements to ensure diet consistency; and processes orders for delivery to patients.
Accurately tallies entrees, salads, desserts from patient and Wheeled Meal menus. Performs related work as required.
Accurately checks menus before each meal, making additions and deletions as needed
Accurately performs certain quality assurance tasks such as checking nutritional adequacy of patient menus, as well as accuracy in the implementation of the diet order.
May perform dietary aide duties on days not scheduled as a dietetic assistant
Education, Training And Experience
Prefer prior healthcare experience. Prefer prior modified/therapeutic diet knowledge and food allergy knowledge or quick ability to learn. On-the-job training is provided. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual education requirements.

Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
