Duties
The Developmental Services Worker (DSW) in keeping with the standards, policies and procedures of The Royal and under the direction of and in collaboration with health professionals, will both individually and as a member of the team:
Provides person-directed supports and services that respect and promote self-determination for people with intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
Provides for the safety of people with developmental disabilities, self and others in compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations and stands of practice.
Employs and adapts formal and informal strategies to support the learning of people with intellectual disabilities.
Assesses and reports daily on persons with developmental disabilities: reporting on progress of care plan interventions.
Provides consistent, supportive interactions and activities to clients, in keeping with evidence based behavioural plan
Communicates using electronic, oral, written and nonverbal formats which meet the requirements specific to the individual and the workplace.
Develops professional and personal plans that enhance job performance and well-being.
Collaborates with individuals, their families, social networks and significant others
Supports the person to implement his/her person-directed plan, while including his/her network and minimize barriers to the achievement of personal goals.
Provides opportunities to participate in a variety of experiences with consideration of their faith, culture, language and cognitive level.
Conducts regular environmental safety scans, including scans to identify risk factors related to all forms of abuse and initiate required action in accordance with legislation and workplace policies and procedures.
Responds to an individual in crisis, according to the person directed plan and workplace protocols and seek assistance as appropriate.
Reports and documents all accidents, emergencies and serious occurrences while adhering to legislations and workplace policies and procedures.
Provide on-call services on a rotational basis, available for weekends and evenings on a rotational basis
Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royals Anti-Racism, Harassment and Discrimination Free policy.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of OSSD and Developmental Service Worker diploma.
Minimum of two years of experience in a hospital or community setting with persons with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
Demonstrated experience providing vocational support to clients considered an asset
CPR certification or recertification within the last 12 months
Access to an reliable vehicle and valid G driver’s license for day to day operations
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
English level A- is mandatory in oral expression/comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range: 32.65 to 33.92 per hour
