HELP CENTER, INC. (HCI) OVERVIEW

Mission Statement: Help Center, Inc. provides crisis counseling, advocacy, information, outreach, support, and services to clientele in a safe, confidential environment. The intent is to assist clients in gaining insight, clarity, empowerment, client-centered solutions and life improvement in the wake of life’s difficulties and in the aftermath of traumatic events.

Programs: Help Center 211/988 Program, Sacks Thrift Store, Gallatin County Child Advocacy Center, and Sexual Assault Counseling Center 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Development & Communications Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing HCI’s mission by leading all fundraising initiatives and external communications. This position is responsible to design and execute comprehensive development strategies that include major gift solicitation, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events. Responsible for implementing strategic marketing and communications plans to strengthen community awareness, enhance the organization's brand, and build affinity for HCI's mission and services.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·      Bachelor’s Degree.

·      Minimum of two years working in a nonprofit setting.

·      Self-starter and ability to make sound and efficient decisions with minimal supervision.

·      Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft compelling narratives

·      Strong presentation skills and comfort speaking to diverse audiences

·      Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision

·      Strategic thinker with excellent project management capabilities

·      Demonstrated sensitivity and ability to respectfully communicate about challenging topics including suicide, sexual assault, and child abuse

·      Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners

·      Proficiency in donor database management and CRM systems

·      Experience with digital communications, website content management systems, and social media platforms

·      Competency with Microsoft Office Suite

·      Experience with Canva or other graphic design tools

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: (NOTE: This is an overview and should not be interpreted as a comprehensive list)

Donor Management & Cultivation

  • Solicit and cultivate new donors using a variety of communications platforms including social media, in-person meetings etc.
  • Continuing building and maintaining our donor database, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely acknowledgments
  • Develop and implement ongoing strategies to cultivate and deepen relationships with individual donors, focusing on donor retention
  • Create and distribute monthly email newsletters highlighting organizational achievements, needs/challenges, and client successes
  • Coordinate and attend meetings with major donors and prospects, engaging BOD members and CEO as needed.
  • Research and identify new funding prospects, including individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors and initiate/maintain relationship building with outreach and information sharing about our work to either an agreed upon fit or not
  • Develop and implement creative donor recognition and stewardship strategies

Development Strategy & Financial Tracking

  • In collaboration with the CEO create an annual development plan outlining clear individual donor, fundraising and grant goals, strategies, timelines, and metrics which will contribute to organizational sustainability and a diversified revenue portfolio
  • Implement the annual development plan
  • Work collaboratively with the financial/business team to track donations and provide reports as requested from various platforms (Network for Good, Stripe, Square, DonorBox, PayPal etc.)
  • Identify and pursue diverse revenue streams to ensure ongoing organizational sustainability
  • Maintain agency profiles on GuideStar, Charity Navigator, etc. updating at least annually

Fundraising & Events

  • Serve as Race Director for the annual Run for Your Life 5k & Kid’s Run, including:
  • Recruiting and managing volunteer committee members
  • Securing sponsorships/in-kind donations, and managing event budget
  • Coordinating logistics, registration, and marketing
  • Ensuring safety of event and managing risks
  • Lead all aspects of Give Big annual giving day campaign, and all community impact days (i.e. Giving Tuesday, etc.)
  • Design and implement year-end fundraising appeals by crafting compelling appeal letters both print and digital distribution
  • Develop timely campaigns for more urgent appeals to help with unanticipated costs/issues
  • Coordinate HCI's Annual Meeting, including logistics, program development, and stakeholder engagement
  • Collaborate with other nonprofit organizations to host the annual Suicide Loss Survivor Day event.
  • Manage smaller fundraising initiatives throughout the year (pint nights, coffee shop partnerships, etc.)
  • Develop and propose new fundraising opportunities aligned with organizational goals

Marketing, Communications & Outreach

  • Attend all program, staff and supervision meetings
  • Supervise a part-time Communications Assistant
  • In collaboration with CEO and Program Managers develop an annual communications strategy that advances organizational goals and implement
  • Design and produce HCI's Annual Report, showcasing impact, updates, and financials
  • Maintain and regularly update website content to ensure accuracy and relevance
  • Manage cohesive branding guidelines and ensure consistent application across all platforms, including national/state standards (i.e. 988 & 211)
  • Manage social media and develop compelling content
  • Collaborate with staff for program research to develop content for the website, newsletter, social media etc.
  • Manage social media accounts and develop compelling content (graphics, video, etc.)
  • Design marketing and outreach materials, including digital and print collateral
  • Coordinate participation in community tabling events and outreach opportunities
  • Collaborate with the Community Education and Outreach staff to deliver presentations about HCI services to community groups, partners, and stakeholders
  • Serve as the primary media contact for the organization, developing press relationships and handling inquiries and provide program manager media training
  • Create and distribute press releases for significant organizational news and events
  • Collaborate with team members on awareness campaigns for key issues
  • Work with Program Managers to advertise open staff positions and volunteer opportunities
  • Participate in community collaboration meetings, as requested

Grants Management

  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with HCI's mission and programs
  • Write compelling grant proposals and applications
  • Build and maintain relationships with foundation program officers and representatives
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure grant compliance, spending, and reporting requirements are all met across the organization in a timely fashion
  • Collaborate with program and data staff to gather necessary data and outcomes for grant reporting purposes

Additional Duties

·      To support HCI’s capitalistic non-profit operation, Sacks Thrift Store, work with store management to develop and support the implementation of an annual marketing plan using innovative/creative strategies to enhance store foot traffic and both in-person and online sales.

·      Serve as liaison to Sacks Thrift management, helping to troubleshoot issues, and serving as a back-up to staff when management is unavailable.

 

PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily office-based work with extended periods of computer use
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds for event setup and other duties
  • Occasional travel within the service area for meetings and events
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for special events
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
