Salary: Up to £32K-£36K (depending on experience)
Please note that only UK-based applicants will be considered, and only those who can travel daily to South London, where the studio is based.
Our team is growing, and we are excited to add a Development Chef to manage our pipeline of development work for our great client base operating within the FMCG, restaurants and casual dining, QSRs, and subscription meals spaces.
Working alongside a development manager, a development technologist, a development chef, an operations manager, a project manager, and our founder, you’ll manage projects and development plans for our clients' briefs, with innovative ideas, inspirational food, and process efficiencies.
We're looking for an experienced Chef with at least 3 years of experience in trendy restaurants in LONDON. The ideal candidate should be able to manage a section in a busy kitchen and be a comfortable cook.
Our studio is based in Camberwell (SE5) but you’ll also get to spend time on-site at our client’s sites helping us implement projects and troubleshoot.
What you need to have:
· 3-5 years of relevant experience in a professional kitchen environment
· Serious computer skills – We use many different software and online systems, being able to learn these and catch up fast will be crucial for your role.
· Experience in FMCG (not essential but a bonus)
· Level 3 Award in Food Hygiene
· A car. Or at least access to a car on an ad-hoc basis, as there will be some national travel involved in the role.
· Culinary art and food science background.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
What you will be doing and learning at GFS:
· Assisting in projects and end-to-end and learning from our fantastic team.
· Market and trend research. Being very tech savvy with great formatting and presentation skills. The ability to research and present insights to relevant briefs.
· Commercially astute, understanding cost engineering, menu development to a target cost, and analytical approach to recipe writing.
· Sourcing and finding ingredients and suppliers for a brief. Being confident in picking up the phone and liaising with suppliers to secure the best price and specs for the project
· Menu and recipe development in line with client briefs and guidelines
· Understanding of nutrition and developing dishes with our state-of-the-art recipe system to strict nutritional criteria.
· Producing training materials and specifications, and the appropriate setting up of training plans to launch a project.
· Help us formulate briefs and assist in pitches to clients. This is a client-facing role, with exposure to high-level sales pitches and tenders.
· Day-to-day upkeep of our development kitchen and making sure everything is stocked up and looking impeccable.
· Never ever say, that’s not my job. Eager to learn and get involved in a supportive environment where everyone gets the best of each other.
We’re launching businesses and projects for our clients’ schedules, and you can expect to work some evenings and weekends. Some national travel might be required.
