CTG is seeking to fill a Desktop Support Technician - Windows 11 Upgrade & Hardware Support for our client in Buffalo, NY. Location: Buffalo, NY Duration: 2 months Duties: Perform large-scale upgrade of desktop systems from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Assess hardware for Windows 11 compatibility and perform necessary upgrades. Conduct in-place upgrades and clean installations of Windows 11. Backup and restore user data, ensuring critical software and configurations are retained. Troubleshoot OS issues during and post-upgrade. Install and upgrade physical components (e.g., RAM, SSDs, GPUs, peripherals). Replace outdated or non-functional hardware. Reimage and configure new or replacement PCs and laptops. Disconnect, relocate, and reconnect desktop hardware and peripherals. Ensure workstation setup is complete with proper power, network, and ergonomic considerations. Document hardware changes and update asset tracking records. Provide Tier 1/2 desktop support to end-users. Maintain detailed records of upgrade activities and system configurations. Escalate complex issues to higher-level support or vendors when necessary. Skills: Proficiency in desktop support and IT field technician tasks. Experience with Windows 11 upgrade procedures and compatibility assessments. Strong understanding of hardware components and Windows OS environments. Effective problem-solving skills in both software and hardware support. Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and imaging tools. Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently. Capable of lifting and relocating computer equipment (up to ~50 lbs.) Experience: Demonstrated experience in desktop support roles. Hands-on experience with Windows 10 to Windows 11 migrations. Experience in enterprise environments and large-scale IT deployments. Familiarity with IT asset management and ticketing systems such as ServiceNow or Jira is a plus. Education: High School Diploma required. Certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Modern Desktop (preferred but not required). Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
