Summary

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented MEP Design Engineer to develop and coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system designs for commercial, residential, and institutional projects. This role requires experience in the design and integration of MEP systems from conceptual planning through construction documentation. The ideal candidate is familiar with local codes, energy compliance requirements, and coordination across design disciplines and consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering

  • Design HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems based on project requirements, applicable codes, and energy standards.
  • Prepare construction drawings, schematics, one-lines, riser diagrams, and equipment schedules using CAD and/or BIM software.
  • Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and system layout coordination.
  • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other design professionals to integrate MEP systems into overall building designs.

Project Coordination & Documentation

  • Develop and manage MEP construction documents through all design phases (SD, DD, CD).
  • Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings during the construction phase.
  • Assist in field investigations and site visits to confirm system compatibility and progress.
  • Ensure design accuracy and code compliance with ASHRAE, NEC, IPC, NFPA, Title 24, and other applicable regulations.

Client & Consultant Interface

  • Attend project meetings to coordinate with clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Provide technical input and support value engineering processes.
  • Communicate design concepts and system functionality to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (required).
  • 3–7 years of experience in MEP design for commercial, residential, mixed-use, or institutional buildings.
  • Strong working knowledge of building systems, energy modeling, and construction methods.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), Bluebeam, and engineering calculation software (e.g., Trane Trace, HAP, Dialux).
  • Familiarity with MEP coordination and clash detection using Navisworks or similar tools.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings to properly route MEP systems.
