Design Coordinator/Project Assistant

About the Role
A well-established commercial construction firm is growing their Specialty Construction Division and looking to bring on a Project Design Coordinator to assist with cross-functional initiatives spanning design, operations, and project delivery. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional looking to grow within a fast-paced, highly specialized sector of the construction industry. As a pivotal team player, you will help bridge the gap between pre-construction planning and on-site execution by supporting the coordination of design documents, subcontractor communications, and construction timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field staff to support design intent throughout project lifecycle.
- Assist with the coordination and administration of construction documents, drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
- Track and organize design revisions, ensuring accuracy and version control in all documentation.
- Coordinate with specialty subcontractors and vendors to gather necessary specifications, cut sheets, and shop drawings.
- Support preconstruction efforts including document reviews, takeoffs, and initial design validation.
- Help ensure compliance with project schedules and assist in identifying design-related issues that may impact deadlines or budgets.
- Participate in internal and external meetings, taking notes and following up on action items relating to design and documentation.
- Maintain digital filing systems and internal platforms to streamline design coordination workflows.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in construction, architecture, or engineering setting supporting design coordination or project administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required with relevant experience.
- Familiarity with commercial or specialty construction is preferred (such as architectural finishes, interiors, glazing, or millwork).
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, construction specifications, and Revit models.
- Working knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam Revu is highly desirable.
- Experience using project management tools and construction platforms, such as Autodesk Build and Microsoft Project.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across internal teams and with external partners.
