Design Coordinator/Project Assistant

Location: Cleveland, OH

About the Role

A well-established commercial construction firm is growing their Specialty Construction Division and looking to bring on a Project Design Coordinator to assist with cross-functional initiatives spanning design, operations, and project delivery. Known for their high-quality craftsmanship and innovative build practices, this firm values precision, collaboration, and forward-thinking design execution across a wide array of commercial projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional looking to grow within a fast-paced, highly specialized sector of the construction industry. As a pivotal team player, you will help bridge the gap between pre-construction planning and on-site execution by supporting the coordination of design documents, subcontractor communications, and construction timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field staff to support design intent throughout project lifecycle.
  • Assist with the coordination and administration of construction documents, drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
  • Track and organize design revisions, ensuring accuracy and version control in all documentation.
  • Coordinate with specialty subcontractors and vendors to gather necessary specifications, cut sheets, and shop drawings.
  • Support preconstruction efforts including document reviews, takeoffs, and initial design validation.
  • Help ensure compliance with project schedules and assist in identifying design-related issues that may impact deadlines or budgets.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings, taking notes and following up on action items relating to design and documentation.
  • Maintain digital filing systems and internal platforms to streamline design coordination workflows.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in construction, architecture, or engineering setting supporting design coordination or project administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required with relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with commercial or specialty construction is preferred (such as architectural finishes, interiors, glazing, or millwork).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, construction specifications, and Revit models.
  • Working knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam Revu is highly desirable.
  • Experience using project management tools and construction platforms, such as Autodesk Build and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across internal teams and with external partners.
