Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced DB2 DBA for on-demand, project-based engagements (typically 3–4 months) to support critical database operations, including migrations, upgrades, and integrations across multiple DB2 databases on IBM Power9/Power10 systems (including Rep, WP, ABE, and Misc) on IBM Power9 systems, with potential migration to Power10. The role focuses on performance tuning, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting to ensure system reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Management & Maintenance
- Perform regular index cleanup, re-indexing, and database optimization.
- Oversee upgrades of DB2 databases, operating systems, and associated tools.
- Ensure database health across production, test, and development environments.
- Execute database upgrades (DB2, OS), migrations (legacy to Power9/Power10), and re-indexing/cleanup during defined project windows.
- Support disaster recovery (DR) testing, failovers, and performance tuning for time-sensitive initiatives.
Migrations & Hardware Upgrades
- Execute migrations from legacy hardware to modern Power9/Power10 systems (occasional).
- Plan and validate disaster recovery (DR) failovers, migrations, and runtime testing.
Performance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve SQL query issues (e.g., slowness, incomplete returns) from Deloitte IES code.
- Troubleshoot system/technical issues, including database connectivity and performance bottlenecks.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Partner with developers and infrastructure teams to optimize SQL and system configurations.
- Maintain documentation for migrations, upgrades, and DR procedures.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years as a DB2 DBA, with expertise on IBM Power Systems (Power9/Power10).
- Proven experience managing large-scale DB2 environments (50+ databases).
- Strong SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and performance optimization skills.
- Familiarity with scripting (Shell, Python, etc.) for automation of maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of DR planning, replication, and HA configurations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in DB2 or IBM Power Systems.
- Experience with Power9-to-Power10 migrations.
Pay Scale: $80-$90 on an hourly basis.
