About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Platform Engineer with a strong focus on database systems to join our team. This role will be critical in building and operating database-related features on our Edge platform, as well as providing database oversight for our existing services. This is not a traditional Database Administrator role; we need someone with a deep understanding of modern distributed database technologies.

Location. This role is office-based at our Bellevue, Washington office.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

• Design, develop, and operate database features on our Edge platform.
• Provide expert-level oversight and management of databases supporting our services.
• Implement and maintain critical database administration tasks, including backups, restores, and repairs.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of highly available and scalable database solutions.
• Collaborate with other engineers to integrate database systems with other platform components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database performance and availability issues.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in database systems, particularly in the NoSQL and NewSQL space.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a Software Engineer (SWE), with a focus on database systems. SRE experience is not required.
• Deep understanding of modern distributed databases, including NoSQL and NewSQL architectures.
• Strong knowledge of consensus algorithms, consistency models, and distributed systems principles.
• Proficiency in database administration tasks, such as backups, restores, and repairs.
• Experience building and operating platform services.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with cloud-based 1 database solutions is a plus.
• Familiarity with Edge computing environments is a plus.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Contributions to open-source database projects.
• Experience with specific NewSQL databases (e.g., CockroachDB, YugabyteDB).
• Experience with ClustrixDB, ScyllaDB, Elastic Search, PostgreSQL, and Cortex databases.
• Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization for distributed databases.
  
  

Compensation & Benefits

For U.S. Based candidates: To ensure fairness and transparency, the starting base salary range for this role for candidates in the U.S. are listed below, varying based on location experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this role will also be offered equity and subsidized benefits (details available upon request).

Compensation

$128,000—$160,000 USD
