We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Engineer to lead a complex database migration project from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.0. This role is critical in ensuring our client's systems' stability, performance, and data integrity as they upgrade their core database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of MySQL internals, extensive hands-on experience with large-scale production environments, and a strategic mindset for planning and executing database transitions with minimal disruption.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end migration of MySQL 5.7 databases to MySQL 8.0 across production, staging, and development environments
• Assess current schema design, stored procedures, triggers, and configurations for compatibility and optimization with MySQL 8.0
• Develop and execute comprehensive migration and rollback plans, including testing, validation, and cutover strategies
• Collaborate with DevOps, application developers, and QA teams to ensure application compatibility and performance post-migration
• Monitor and troubleshoot performance, replication, and connectivity issues before, during, and after migration
• Apply best practices in backup/restore, high availability, replication, and security during the migration process
• Create detailed technical documentation and operational runbooks for ongoing maintenance
  
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with MySQL
• Proven experience leading at least one major MySQL version migration project
• Deep understanding of MySQL architecture, storage engines (InnoDB, MyISAM), indexing strategies, and performance tuning
• Solid understanding of replication, partitioning, and clustering
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Fluent in English (B2 minimum required)
