Role Overview

You will work in a fast-paced environment where you will be responsible for the most critical systems. Our external teams ( Customers ) count on us to keep their MySQL databases running, and we are vital to the success of their businesses. You will troubleshoot and resolve customer issues related to the DB system's availability and performance. You will develop relationships with customers, comprehend and fulfil their needs, and maintain their satisfaction through regular communication and engagement with their environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Performance Optimization: Optimize complex SQL queries and database structures to enhance performance.
  • Query Analysis & RCA: Analyze database errors, troubleshoot issues, and provide detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) when required.
  • Alert Management: Handle and resolve MySQL alerts efficiently, ensuring database stability.
  • Client Interaction: Join client calls to discuss database performance, troubleshooting, and optimization strategies.
  • Mentoring & Training: Guided and mentored Associate Database Engineers (ADBEs) to improve their database troubleshooting skills.
  • Documentation & Process Improvement: Maintain and improve technical documentation, RCA reports, and operational processes for better efficiency.
  • Shift Responsibilities: The role may involve night shifts and on-call support as per business needs.
  • Community Contribution: Actively participate in the database community and contribute to blogs, open-source projects, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Required Skills & Expertise

  • Strong SQL Optimization Skills – Proficient in optimizing queries, indexing strategies, and MySQL performance tuning.
  • MySQL Administration – Deep understanding of MySQL architecture, replication, and troubleshooting.
  • Backup & Recovery Expertise – Hands-on experience with:
  • Mysqldump
  • mydumper/myloader
  • Xtrabackup / mariabackup
  • Replication & High Availability – Expertise in:
  • Binlog-based replication
  • GTID-based replication
  • InnoDB architecture and performance tuning
  • Cloud & AWS Operations – Experience with:

AWS RDS / Aurora

S3 bucket operations

  • Linux Commands for Database Operations – Proficiency in essential Linux commands
  • Log collection & analysis
  • Incident & RCA Management – Ability to analyze issues and document detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports.
  • Excellent Communication Skills – Effectively communicating with clients and internal teams.
  • Problem-Solving & Teamwork – Strong analytical skills, team collaboration, and willingness to take ownership.

Added Advantage

  • Experience in Galera Cluster and Group Replication
  • Knowledge of ProxySQL as a load balancer
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (PMM, Nagios, Prometheus, etc.)
