The Data Architect is responsible for the overall architecture, maintenance, security and performance of the UWH Enterprise Data Warehouse. All design and development decisions ultimately rest with this role. This role will report to the VP of Data and Analytics.
Responsibilities
- Designs and creates data models, develops and implements databases to support applications to accommodate a variety of user needs.
- Analyzes and determines informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements and data output and reporting capabilities.
- Defines logical attributes and inter-relationships and designs data structures to accommodate reporting and analytic needs while ensuring security and compliance requirements are maintained.
- Gathers system and database metrics pertaining to the running of databases to identify and resolve problems; determines and develops performance enhancements with measurable benchmarks.
- Serves as a liaison with vendors and other third-party providers in terms of data access.
- Assists the larger IT organization with pressing issues and technical troubleshooting as needed.
- Owns the database design/modeling portion of BI and data projects through all project stages, preparing a technical design that reflects business requirements and is consistent with IT Strategy and overall IT Architecture and security requirements.
- Evaluate new technologies and develop project proposals for new BI and data solutions.
- Responsible for all end-user provisioning in the EDW and in the reporting and analytic solutions connected to it.
- Evaluates data source systems for all new UWH M&A activities and works to understand how to best incorporate these into the EDW and the associated UWH data model.
- Generates, communicates, and trains the BI group on EDW architecture, usage, and expansion.
- Mentors less senior Database Architects and BI Analysts.
- May act as a technical project leader or provide work leadership for lower level employees.
- Does not include full supervisory responsibilities.
- Functions as part of the UWH IT organization to provide oversight for all technological aspects of the company’s EDW and applicable systems.
- Assure the successful execution of the company’s mission through assessment, development and deployment of enterprise-wide database and reporting software that is scalable to meet company growth demands.
- Manage multiple projects ensuring quality and timeliness.
- Identify technology trends that may support or impede the success of the business in terms of Data and Analytics
- Evaluate, identify and implement appropriate database and application technology platforms to ensure efficient delivery of company services.
- Collaborate with the appropriate departments to assess and recommend technologies that support company organizational needs.
- Serve as the lead for the EDW’s (and associated systems) Data Governance and Security functions
- Serve as the lead for the EDW’s (and associated systems) Disaster Recovery activities
- Works autonomously on complex projects and will assist less experienced peers.
- Wide latitude for independent judgment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors/Masters Degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience
Work Experience And Qualifications
- 4 plus years healthcare experience *REQUIRED*
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible database design and implementation experience
- Experience with Medical and Claims data is a must.
- Prior experience with HIPAA data and policies associated therein
- Development experience with cloud databases such as Snowflake, Big Query, Redshift *REQUIRED*
- Extensive knowledge of ELT applications and processes. Examples include Talend, SSIS, Matillion
- Deep understanding of different data modeling philosophies and architectures. Examples include Data Vault, Star Schema design *REQUIRED*
- Knowledge of Azure Data technologies and components. Examples include Data factory, event hubs, Etc.
- Use of GitHub, Kafka, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to understand business user needs and translate these into data structures that support data-driven decision making across the organization
