Flow Traders is looking for an experienced Database Administrator (MariaDB/MySQL) in Hong Kong to join our growing global team of in-house database experts. You will be working across global teams on the setup, management and continuous evolution of a global database landscape constituting one of the cornerstones of our operations. You will be primarily working with MariaDB, so deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience in tuning, troubleshooting, and scaling InnoDB-based systems are required. Familiarity with other data systems in our stack—SQL Server, ClickHouse—is a strong plus.
As a DBA, you will perform a variety of business-critical tasks, such as deployment of new databases; management of security accounts and implementation of database alterations, upgrades, and migrations. Further, you will be involved in more complex initiatives, including design, development, and deployment of new projects; maintenance and troubleshooting of global replication topologies; and management of high-pressure recovery situations.
What You Will Do
- Safeguard the continuity of our trading systems infrastructure and facilitate our traders in their day-to-day activities
- Monitor and optimise our systems which host a wide range of applications
- Be the driving force behind innovations, ranging from realizing new links between stock markets and our network to implementing solutions that optimise system stability/performance and reliability
- Maintain and improve the existing network/infra/systems which also includes network orchestration and automation tasks
- Manage, maintain and shape infrastructures, develop and enact contingency plans and provide secondary and tertiary support to our teams
- Frequent contact with internal and external stakeholders (traders, data centers/colocations, third party suppliers)
- Proactively lookout for ways to optimise performance
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor's Degree or Professional Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or equivalent
- At least 3-5 years of experience in IT (support/optimization/deployments) to cover wide area networks, branch offices, cloud, multicast routing, security devices (firewalls) and wireless networks
- Desired experience with support electronic trading systems within capital markets firm or equivalent industry (APAC regional knowledge)
- Desired experience supporting environments with low latency networks, capture probes and network latency management systems
- Strong knowledge of Cisco technologies (L2/L3 switches and routers, firewalls and wireless) and Arista technologies (L2/L3 switches and routers)
- Understanding the specific IT needs of our organization (low latency, high performance, redundancy and high availability) and excel at resolving issues on the fly
- Experience with Unix/Linux command line and networking stack
- Hands-on scripting experience (Bash/Shell, Python and Salt)
- Network related certification (example CCNP) is a plus
- Knowledge in Cloud platform environments (AWS and GCP)
- Knowledge of Data Center and cabling standards
- Understanding of Project Management methodology and best practices
- Able to produce quality documentation on network design, diagrams and support materials
- Desire to adopt new technologies and ability to contribute as a team player
Good to have:
- Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, multicast routing [PIM SM/DM/SSM]
- Knowledge on switching concepts: VLAN, Spanning-tree protocol (RSTP, PVSTP+, 802.1q trunking), Port-Channel, VRRP/HSRP, CEF, ARP, TCAM and IGMPv2/3
- Desirable knowledge in time synchronization protocols NTP, PTP (grandmaster, boundary clock, offset) and GPS
- TCP analysis and traffic optimization with concepts as TCP Slow-start, Dup-Acks, Retransmits, SACK, Checksum and Seq Number
- Security (VPN, IPSEC, SSL, Access-Lists)
- Network Monitoring (Zabbix, SNMP, Netflow and Grafana)
- WAN Connectivity (MPLS, Ethernet and DWDM)
- Packet decoding and analysis tools such as tcpdump and wireshark
- Knowledge of Cisco and Arista L1 technologies
- Experience with China co-location setup
