Summary

Join Our Team!

We're looking for a Desktop Support Engineer to join our friendly Yeovil-based IT team and play a key role in keeping Old Mill running smoothly. If you enjoy problem-solving, delivering great customer service, and helping people make the most of their tech, this could be the perfect fit.

This is a fully office-based role, so you'll be right at the heart of the action, working closely with colleagues across the business to resolve technical issues, manage hardware, and support our Microsoft 365 environment. You'll also contribute to projects, improve processes and help shape how we use technology to collaborate, communicate and grow.

What You'll Do:

As a key part of our friendly Yeovil-based IT team, you'll be the first point of contact for internal colleagues needing technical support, helping to resolve issues efficiently and professionally. You'll provide day-to-day support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices and a range of specialist financial applications, keeping our people connected and our systems running smoothly.

You'll also be involved in:

  • Building and deploying Windows 11 machines using Microsoft Deployment Tools
  • Installing and maintaining hardware, and supporting regular upgrades
  • Managing user accounts and permissions in Active Directory and Office 365
  • Maintaining protection systems including antivirus, anti-malware and email scanning tools

In addition, you'll help maintain IT asset records and system documentation, creating user-friendly guides and knowledgebase articles along the way. You'll support new starters and leavers, and work closely with the wider IT team on operational improvements and collaborative projects that make a real difference across the business.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:

You'll be a confident communicator and active listener with a friendly, proactive approach to helping others. Curious and keen to develop your knowledge, you'll enjoy getting to grips with new systems and technologies and you won't be afraid to ask questions or suggest improvements.

You'll also bring:

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • A natural problem-solving mindset with an analytical approach to resolving issues

Your Technical Toolkit:

You'll need a solid working knowledge of:

  • Microsoft 365 and Windows 11
  • Active Directory & Entra ID
  • Basic network troubleshooting

Bonus Points:

It would be great (but not essential) if you also have:

  • An understanding of IT processes and cybersecurity principles
  • Experience using ticketing systems
  • Awareness of VLAN/WiFi networking
  • An interest in emerging technologies and how they can drive business efficiency

Benefits

What You'll Get:

At Old Mill, we go beyond the basics to offer a benefits package designed to support your personal and professional growth:

  • Generous Holiday Allowance - Start with 25 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase up to 5 additional days.
  • Celebrate Your Birthday - Enjoy an extra day off just for you.

  • Perks and Discounts - Access to a range of discounts on everyday purchases.
