Job Summary

A Data Privacy Officer is responsible for overseeing and implementing a comprehensive data privacy program within an organization. This role requires a deep understanding of data protection laws and regulations, as well as strong project management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data privacy policies and procedures: Create and maintain policies and procedures that align with relevant data protection laws and regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Conduct data privacy assessments: Identify and assess data privacy risks throughout the organization, including data flows, storage, and processing.
  • Manage data privacy projects: Oversee projects related to data privacy compliance, such as data breach response planning, privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and data retention policies.
  • Provide data privacy training: Develop and deliver training programs to employees on data privacy best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Manage data subject access requests (DSARs): Process and respond to DSARs in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Coordinate with legal and IT teams: Collaborate with legal and IT teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Stay up to date on data privacy laws and regulations: Monitor changes in data privacy laws and regulations and update the organization's policies and procedures accordingly.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of data protection laws and regulations: A strong understanding of the GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data privacy laws.
  • Project management skills: Ability to plan, organize, and execute data privacy projects effectively.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to analyze complex data and identify potential data privacy risks.
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to identify and resolve data privacy issues.
  • Technical knowledge: Basic understanding of IT systems and data management processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in data privacy: Certifications such as Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPP) or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) are preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated industry: Experience in industries with strict data privacy requirements esp CPG.

Additional Notes

  • The role may also involve working with external data privacy consultants or auditors.
