About the role

As a Data Platform Architect, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a robust and scalable data platform that supports the organisations data-driven initiatives. You will work closely with business stakeholders, to understand their requirements and translate them into efficient and effective data platform designs. Your primary focus will be on architecting a modern data ecosystem that enables data ingestion, storage, processing, and analytics at scale.

Responsibilities:

• Data Platform Architecture: Develop and maintain the overall data platform architecture strategy, including data ingestion, storage, processing, and analytics. Design scalable and high-performance data platforms that meet business objectives and align with industry best practices.
• Data Ingestion and Integration: Design and implement efficient data ingestion pipelines, ensuring the smooth and reliable collection of data from various sources. Integrate with external systems, databases, and APIs to capture and consolidate data into the data platform.
• Data Storage and Management: Architect the storage layer of the data platform, including data warehousing, data lakes, and data marts. Define data storage schemas, partitioning strategies, and data organization principles to enable efficient data retrieval and analysis.
• Data Processing and Transformation: Design and implement data processing and transformation pipelines, utilizing technologies like Apache Spark, Hadoop, or cloud-based data processing services. Ensure the data pipelines are scalable, fault-tolerant, and optimized for performance.
• Data Governance and Security: Establish and enforce data governance policies and best practices, ensuring data quality, data lineage, and data privacy. Implement appropriate security controls, access management, and encryption mechanisms to protect sensitive data.
• Data Analytics and Reporting: Design and implement analytics and reporting capabilities on the data platform. Enable self-service analytics, data visualization, and ad-hoc querying for business users.
• Cloud and Big Data Technologies: Leverage cloud and big data technologies, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Apache Hadoop, or Apache Spark, Apache Kafka to build scalable and cost-effective data platforms.
• Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for performance optimization and data platform tuning. Conduct performance monitoring, capacity planning, and optimization efforts to ensure optimal system performance and resource utilization.
• Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate with engineers and business stakeholders, to understand their requirements and provide guidance on data platform-related matters. Lead and mentor engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
• Research and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and trends in data management, big data technologies, and analytics. Evaluate new tools and technologies and provide recommendations for their adoption to enhance the organisations data platform capabilities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Extensive experience as a data platform architect, designing and implementing scalable and performant data platforms.
• Strong expertise in big data technologies, cloud platforms, and data processing frameworks (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, Hadoop, Spark).
• In-depth knowledge of data architecture patterns, data modeling, data integration, and data governance principles.
• Experience with data storage technologies like data lakes, data warehouses, and NoSQL databases.
• Proficiency in data processing and transformation using technologies like Apache Spark, Hadoop, or cloud-based data processing services.
• Solid understanding of data security, data privacy, and compliance requirements.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex data requirements and design scalable solutions.
• Experience with data analytics and visualization
